Gym Tacos — Restaurant in Durham

Located right next to Thai-angle (which we adore), we were in the mood for tacos and this place had been on my list.

The menu is a la carte, which is how I like to order tacos and probably how most places do it around here. They had a lot of the classics (pastor, carnitas, pollo) and some of the traditional specialty ones (lengua, suadero, and cabeza). I ordered 4 tacos and my partner ordered 5. Very filling for the two of us. I think next go round we’ll try the tortas.

They have a salsa bar ranging from mild to exotic (they had a spicy peanut sauce) and house made pickled onions 🤤. My favorite was the extra spicy and my partner liked the peanut one. They have house made horchata and agua fresca, which we did not try this time but next visit for sure 👍.

Like many places in downtown you may have to circle the block once or twice to find parking. Tbf, it is Sunday/Mother’s Day and lots of folks are downtown.

Oh my god. I’m absolutely ruined now that they have a Durham location.

I rarely go to Raleigh, but when I do I ALWAYS get Gym Tacos because their food is amazing. I was a little nervous because you never know how different locations will be for the same restaurant, but this one DE👏LIV👏ERED👏👏👏👏!!!!! I always get the al pastor torta and it was just as delicious and flavorful as at their Hillsborough Street location in Raleigh!!

I'm not lying, these were the best tacos I ever had in my life and this incoming from someone who doesn't like corn tortillas. The meat was perfectly seasoned and seared. The sauce paired PERFECTLY with the tacos. The churros.... Goodness! I don't like cinnamon that much, but these were perfect and the presentation was amazing. The restaurant was clean and the service was amazing. I believe the manager working was Ricky and he was very sweet and definitely one of the reasons I'll be back....
