I don’t know what to say. I worked in the service industry for 10 years, I’ve not really experienced something like this, so forgive me if I sound upset. I had gone months ago because this shop has THE best matcha I’ve ever had. I wanted to try something a bit new, so I asked for strawberry syrup ( and also a cookie). There were two people working, both very sweet and amenable until I asked my second question. They accidentally made it with regular milk, which I can’t have. I tried to wait until they said it was my order before saying anything, just in case I was wrong. It was gorgeous and triple layered, green, white, red. Mentioned, “I’m so sorry, but is this regular milk?”. They apologized and made the drink for me again, although this time it wasn’t layered. I am totally okay with this as it’ll end up getting mixed somewhat anyways. What I couldn’t tell though was if there was strawberry syrup bc of the lack of layers. So I asked, the workers looked at each other and maybe seemed annoyed? I’m not sure. They said there was, come to find out there wasn’t but I really didn’t want to bother them again. I left, without strawberry syrup and without a cookie, and feeling like I had bothered them. I called the number that’s online, got the voicemail and it seemed to be the owner. I left a voicemail and never heard anything back. I went back today and I’m autistic, so I maybe approached this incorrectly, but shared this with the worker that was there, they said they were sorry but there was no offer for a refund which I would think is customary, at least for the items I didn’t receive. I know it wouldn’t have been much money, but I do live paycheck to paycheck and this is my “little treat” about once a month. I was also told I parked in front of the entrance, which I didn’t see a sign, but there’s a ramp up to the door that I made sure to park on the side of. I tried to explain to the workers I didn’t know, but still felt like I should have known better with the tone they had (again, may have interpreted it wrong). I’m at a loss as to if I’ll return, but I do want to support them as they are a...
Read moreOmie’s is a cozy place to have a coffee or pastry with friends. They offer a solid, simple menu and work with other local businesses to provide flavor options! They have a brief seasonal menu and some daily specials. The barista made great recommendations! Prices were around $5-6 for a 12-16oz drink. If you’re earth conscious, Omie’s is too with compost and recyclable options when you’re finished.
Most seating sections fit 2-4 people; there are padded and hardwood seats. The seats are somewhat low and may be difficult to get in and out of for some people. The bathroom should be wheelchair accessible and there is a bar by the toilet. There are sections with large windows for natural light and sections without which may be favorable if you have sensory concerns. The road noise can be a bit loud since the location is right on a busy street. They also have a small children’s play area if you want to come here with kiddos!
Parking is tight and immediately off of Roxboro St. However, there is a shopping center directly across the street with a large parking lot that is easily accessible via a lighted crosswalk. It’s relatively close to downtown Durham if that’s your destination but a bit far to walk.
Overall, Omie’s is a light and airy place with a...
Read moreFrom the moment we stepped into Omie’s Coffee Shop in Durham, NC, I knew I was in for a treat. This cafe exudes a warm and welcoming ambiance that makes you want to stay a while. The latte with oat milk Dana ordered was nothing short of fantastic, perfectly brewed with a rich flavor that coffee lovers will appreciate. My cappuccino was nothing less than perfect. It’s clear that Omie’s pays close attention to the quality of their offerings, as the bakery goods, including an exceptionally good cinnamon roll, seemed to be locally sourced or made in-house. The prices were also fantastic, adding to the overall positive experience.
What sets Omie’s apart, though, is its community connection. The cafe has a palpable focus on being community-centric, which is both refreshing and admirable. The owner, Izabella, was the embodiment of this spirit - very nice and attentively focused on our needs, enhancing the overall visit.
Initially, I reserved 5 stars for only the “OMG” level cafes, but reflecting on my experience, Omie’s truly deserves the full five stars. It’s a gem in Durham that serves not just great coffee and bakery items but also a sense of community and warmth. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy a great cup of coffee in a place that...
