9/14 visit: The person who took my order was nice and friendly which was a great start. I ordered a latte and a ham and cheese croissant. I went to go sit down and about 5-10 minutes later, I don't hear anything (name or drink being called out). So I go up to the bar area and she tells me that she has my drink in hand, which is was great. She then gives me one of their vegan desserts on a plate and I say "would you mind if I get the croissant" - cuz that's what I ordered. They admit their mistake and say it's been a long day, which I can appreciate. They tell me that they'll warm up my croissant and bring it to me. I say ok and go sit down. About 5 minutes later I see something smoking on the bar side, but don't think much of it. I'm waiting... and waiting... maybe 20 minutes at this point - and I finally go back up and she apologize again saying she had gone on break and it just lapsed her mind. Another worker says that he'll warm it up for me right now, and so I wait there until he does and go back to my seat.
None of this is a big tragedy, and honestly I wouldn't have wanted a free pastry or anything else - but I tipped 20% right when I ordered my stuff, and tbh that's probably the last time I do. I was trying to be supportive cuz I know how hard it is these days, but if I ever do come back to this place - i'll be putting $0 tip. Seemed like I was forgotten about repeatedly, and the 20% was just adding...

The food piece is especially important, because Durham has so many breweries / bottle shops, but really few places to grab a great sandwich or salad or snack. There’s a little something for everyone.
Edit: I’ve been here on a few weekdays and have noticed it can take quite a while (20-30 minutes) to get your order (sandwich, salad, etc.). I still love this place but think I might need to order takeout in advance on workdays as it feels like a little too long to wait. Perhaps they would benefit from some...
Read moreThe Daily is our (me + my husband's) favorite spot in Durham. The owners make a strong effort to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that is truly unique. The staff are also super friendly. We've found The Daily to be good for both working with a coffee+croissant and for relaxing with a pint+sandwich. It's a community spot with great ambience and delicious coffee and beer.
Check out their Instagram page for frequent events like the Wednesday run/bike clubs or a paint and sip with a local artist...
