We dined here several times under the previous owner and really loved both the food and experience each time. After hearing that they were under new management we finally went to check it out and I'm sad to say this place just isn't the same. The main thing I noticed is that the prices have increased by a lot, and in a bizarre twist the portion sizes have shrank considerably. The appetizers in particular are quite expensive with extremely small portions which makes no sense. I ordered the roasted beet salad ($15) which was so small I could have fit it in the palm of my hand. It was quite good but a total rip off for the tiny portion. Gone are the interesting and unique entrees and it seems the quality of the food has slipped as well. I ordered the ribeye ($70) which came with some pretty decent spicy mashed potatoes and nothing else (how about some veggies?). The ribeye was unfortunately of poor quality as other reviewers have shared - thin and full of gristle (if you'd like a high quality and much more affordable ribeye in the area, please check out The Hollywood Bistro in Woodinville). While the staff were kind the service was extremely slow. There was only one other table in the restaurant yet it took them almost ten minutes to actually take our orders and the staff would frequently disappear and just leave us sitting there. I also didn't like how they kept trying to up sell us - asking if we wanted another cocktail and also asking if I wanted to upgrade my $70 ribeye with a lobster tail or other high priced add-ons. Their menu doesn't offer a lot of variety and all of the entrees are extremely expensive now. Long gone are the lower priced options as well as the 4 for $40 menu that was such an affordable and fun way to experience what this restaurant used to be. With two entrees, a few appetizers and one cocktail our bill with gratuity came to $300. That's more than I recently paid for an outstanding four course meal for two with drinks in San Francisco that was far superior both in the amount and quality of food that I received from Flavour Bistro. The new owners have also have been very spotty with their social media presence and instead of just telling us what they are doing with their menu they keep posting weird little videos that aren't very helpful. I'm sorry folks but there are much better (and more affordable) dining experiences in the area so unless this place gets its act together I don't plan on ever...
Read moreWe have been meaning to visit this location again ever since new ownership came in... Made a reservation for New Year's Eve. Staff was low and there was no bartender. I don't blame the restaurant at all considering the current staffing challenges everyone continues to face. Our server was fantastic. She was working very hard. She kept apologizing for the delays. We were in no hurry and told her we understand and not to worry about it at all. the space hasn't changed much which isn't a bad thing... A couple of large parties were seated, and everyone was in a celebratory mood... We enjoy the blue water and the wine we ordered... We chose the classic Caprese Appetizer to share... it was good. We both felt like steak so both of us ended up ordering the Ribeye. Unfortunately, when the plates arrived, we were both very surprised... the "ribeyes" looking nothing like their namesake, more like a butterflied top sirloin of sorts... so odd. it sat on a shallow dollop of mashed potatoes. no green. no garnish. Very bland looking. The server was SO busy we decided to just dig in. my partner at most of hers but was clear that did not resemble a ribeye. I was only able to work on 2 bites. The meat was stringy, chewy and just not appetizing. It was a very busy night for the restaurant, so we let it go, decided against dessert, paid the bill and went home. We left surprised that we weren't asked at all about the majority of meat not eaten left on the plate but chalked it up to lesson learned. We have both cooked and dined on many ribeye over the years and this was definitely not a ribeye in any form. The cut was a very low quality of beef. At $65 per plate, it was disappointing to say the least. I was not going to bother with a review however the experience and the $250 bill (included wine & tip) continues to linger. We love small town establishments, and we always wish them the best for longevity and success. I truly hope that this motivates Flavour Bistro to review the quality of ingredients and presentation to bring it up to par with the history of the restaurant and the prices listed on the menu. In order to return I would have to read about changes and improvements in the menu. Thank you for reading. As mentioned at the start, we wanted to provide so much grace for the busy evening... however it wasn't the timing or service that was the opportunity for...
Read moreI cannot recommend this place enough. It's easily the best restaurant in the Duvall/Monroe/Redmond area.
I'll say up front that Flavor Bistro is a bit spendy, but the taste quality of the food is well worth the price. It has four distinct parts to its menu that I'd call out:
The seasonal (weekly) menu is so, so good. The bacon wrapped elk medalions they have occasionally is easily the best main dish I've had almost anywhere (even high end steak houses like John Howie can't compare to that dish). I just wish they had some of these items more regularly and not on the weekly menu.
The "normal" items on the menu are all very good. To set expectations, what they do very well here is the sauce and flavor of every dish plus high quality meat. For example, if you are ordering steak here you shouldn't expect a "Steakhouse" experience with a seasoned steak served plain, instead the NY strip comes with a really flavorful asian-style reduction that's meant to be enjoyed with it. If you want a really high-end steak, go to a steakhouse instead...the point of this place is that the dishes here have a lot interesting flavor combinations that all just work.
While I have never ordered anything from the main menu I didn't love here, the Loster Leek Pappardelle and the Grilled Ceaser Salad (appetizer) really stand out as the best.
Their deserts are very good. The Zongo in particular is incredible and seems to be unique to this place. It's a deep fried...tortilla shell? (it's like an elephant ear) stuffed with cream cheese and served with ice cream and caramel.
They also offer "exotic" meats to try here like python spring rolls or BBQ kangaroo. I've tried a few of these and they were interesting, but I mostly avoid them. To be clear, everything we've tried has actually been pretty good, but honestly the rest of the menu is so fantastic that it's hard to recommend these exotic items. I'd much rather have something from their excellent weekly/seasonal menu or regular menu instead, but the exotic items are solidly fun to try for the experience if you are into that...
