Let me preface by saying they eventually told us they were training new cooks in the kitchen. We made a reservation for lunch on a Sunday. When we arrived, we were not greeted by the host, she proceeded to seat two other parties, and take a woman’s to go order, and then forgot we were standing there. Eventually, she noticed us, and took us to a table. She said she’d be right back with some water, 15 minutes later no water and no help from anyone. I asked a random staff member for water, and she brought us water, again 10 minutes went by and no one greeted us or took our order. After sitting there for 20 minutes, I looked back at the register and caught the attention of a server and she came over and said she’d be right with us, another 10 minutes went by before she took our order. (An hour since we walked in at this point) Our two drip coffee’s came 10 minutes later.
The brunch crowd was clearing out and there had to be at least 9 people working the floor. They kept refilling our coffee, but never gave us updates on our food. Finally after ANOTHER 20 minutes of waiting. I got up and went to the bar and asked someone if our food was coming and they said it was coming right up. They eventually dropped my friend’s crab cakes but nothing else. After my friend ate her crab cakes, I figured I was never going to get my food and just gave up. I got up and told the supervisor we had to leave, and only then did she apologize and offer an explanation.
Needless to say, we had a bad experience. I can’t comment on the food because I never actually ate anything. We decided to make a day of it and ride our motorcycles from south Seattle and we’re really excited to try this place, so it was really a bummer to make the long trip home with empty stomachs. Probably a fluke experience but thought it was worth sharing so the management can get their...
Read moreWe came here with 4 people on July 2, a Sunday, at 1:45pm It was warm and the surrounding community was busy. Parking was a little challenging, there's street parking within a block.
I've come here 3 other times, all great experiences. Today we waited about 5 minutes till our outside table was ready. Whether outside or inside, there isn't a bad seat in this old Grange building. It has great charm.
We were between brunch and lunch change, and ordered Harvest Hash, Fried Chicken Sandwich, Shakshuka, and I ordered the Grange Pizza.
The orders came out within 10 minutes or so. However the waiter Stephen came out and said the pizza would be a while longer. I think they may have missed my order then realized it. My pizza came as everyone else was finishing. Bummer. Stephen was apologetic about it and even offered to get me an appetizer while I waited. The pizza came and it was piping hot, had great flavors, the crust had a great chew and texture. The three other entre's were also really good. The chicken was battered, with a thick crust - yum. The fries were crunchy. The Harvest Hash was hearty with perfectly done brisket and potatoes. Shakshuka had great flavor. Portions were healthy.
I was disappointed by the delay, but the pizza was great. Stephen checked in on us and let me know that the pizza would be comped - no charge. Fantastic - great move Stephen!
I have always had great meals here and this was no exception. They get a 'hall pass' as the miss on timing with the pizza was a mistake, they knew it and Stephen corrected it. All good. $25 per person not including tip.
If you are east of the city in the foothills near Duvall, give this place a shot, you won't be disappointed. Great charm and...
Read moreBeautifully done restaurant. The deck is romantic and dreamy. Open floor plan and the piano-open-to-all (read: bored 4-year-olds) makes this a VERY noisy environment. The mussels and clams (Penn Cove Mussels, $18) were a surprise--and therefore, a bit of a disappointment--due to the copious amounts of DAIRY in the broth, not mentioned on the menu. A diner with us said, "this is a bowl of cream". Another, "it's too bad those mussels weren't in a cider sauce (like the menu said) but a cider-cream sauce!" The Penn Cove Mussels also come with "toast" which is really pizza dough or thin, thin pita, charred in their pizza oven. Portions are too small. The caesar was shredded kale, which would have been good to know before buying at $11 (it very well could have been on the menu and I may have missed it). The prosciutto pizza was a let-down, too! $17 and it was plain dough and 6 or 8 slices prosciutto with as many slivers of pecorino. The toppings slid off, could not be chewed-through and everything lacked flavor; a side of marinara and parmesan helped me get down the very plain crust. Table mate ordered and ate 100% of the flank steak ($27). Portions too small again. Kiddos at our table loved the Snoqualmie rootbeer, meatballs app ($12 for 5 smallish-balls in a boyardee-remiscent sauce) and the dessert cookie (share one!), served with cream. I would come back to try the pepperoni pizza, but I'm not holding my breath. Our party of 4 adults were underwhelmed and glad that I carry salt with me. PS- our host and server were nice; family-owned feeling. Tl;dr: small portions and surprises not listed on menu in a loud, but comfortable and welcoming...
