First of all I would like to say that my service was fantastic. That's what pains me the most about what I'm going to say. I don't know who writes these reviews. I don't know who rates these places. But I got a pretty good idea that most of the people that write these reviews are the same people that rave about Denny's. The same people that think taking your wife out for a seafood dinner for Valentine's Day means going to Red lobster.. 2nd for the love of God people if you're going to have chicken fried steak or country fried steak on your menu take a little pride and batter it yourself. It's really not that hard get some cube steak some eggs some flour Little seasoning. I know all the good cooks have since went to the big kitchen in the sky. Probably because they died of clogged arteries but we're not doing a service to the customers the restaurants or the cooks themselves by letting people get by with getting a chicken fried steak out of a bag And then trying to serve it to people. Now I didn't order it because that's the first thing I asked. I said "is this chicken fried steak out of a bag"? and they said yes so I skipped it... What I did do is order the "steak" eggs benedict. I can tell you that I don't care where that cow came from or what bacteria or living organisms were in that cow there is absolutely zero chance that anything survived that grilling of that steak. That steak was darker than the bottom of my feet after running out to check the mail with no shoes on down a 200 ft asphalt driveway in August. That "steak" eggs benedict needs a name change. I propose beef jerky eggs Benedict.. can you imagine being a cow and knowing that you died so that you could be served to someone with no flavor? Because The flavor had been cooked out of you probably 20 minutes before you were even taken off of the grill? I write this review in memory of...
Read moreEfficiency without fussiness is what comes to mind immediately when I reflect on our breakfast here. There were 3 people working the relatively small dining room, and they were working it well.
Set up as a relaxed retro-style diner, with music playing very softly in the background and lots of locals dotting the room, you immediately feel comfortable settling in. While there was a "please wait to be seated" sign up, patrons were advised to sit where they like as they entered. It was about 30% full when we arrived around 1030a & packed by the time we left. It's not a fancy establishment but it isn't the run of the mill greasy spoon either.
We each opted for our choice of omelette, of which there were several unique offerings & 3 bread choices to pair with them. The ingredients used were fresh, food came up fast and hot. The ample "fillings" were served under the fluffy eggs, giving you control of the ratio. Bonus: the lovely house made jam was good enough to suck straight from the bottle (please don't)
From my vantage point I was able to watch how the house ran. It was truly spectacular. 2 wait staff tended to patrons, while a 3rd person circled. Drinks were topped off regularly. Plates were cleared as quickly as they were set aside. Tables were cleaned and set as the patrons exited. The longest wait was for our bill, still under 5min.
Prices are reasonable. Great food & service, a much better choice than chain diners with canned/frozen veggies - do yourself a favor when the diner mood strikes by giving...
Read moreSome of their breakfasts are good. I like the gyro omelet but I wish they would give you more cucumber sauce. Tried but didn't at all like the flavor of their corned beef hash. I recall a fish dinner some time ago that was also very mediocre -- just formed breaded fish triangles that you might buy in the freezer section at your grocery store. My wife would always get the biscuits and gravy but as of our latest order (12/25/2022) it seems that they have changed their biscuits to something else. The new biscuits are not good at all, and they are also skimpy on the gravy. Very disappointing. Their hash browns are also never crispy. One time I ordered cheese on the hash browns but never got them. That same order I had ordered onions and green peppers in the hash browns but just received some raw peppers and onions sprinked on the top. I never did call to complain so I guess that's partly on me. I also wish they used sustainable packaging. Not only is styrofoam and regular plastic utensils not earth friendly but I've had the packaging melt on me before. I don't want melted styrofoam in contact with my food. They are obviousy a non-chain locally owned place that I would like to support, and they are also clearly very popular, but we probably won't ever be going back there again due to our negative...
