Disappointed and Done Trying
I really wanted to love this new spot, especially since it took over the space of a beloved neighborhood deli. But after three visits, I just canât justify giving it another chance.
From the start, the staff seemed completely disinterested. My first visit was right after they opened, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The deli cases were empty, which was disappointing, but I figured they were still getting things up and running. What really threw me was the total lack of directionâno signage, no clear place to order, and worst of all, no one approached me to help. Three employees stood behind different counters and didnât even acknowledge me. I finally approached one and asked what was available. She said âsandwichesâ in a tone that made it clear she wasnât thrilled to be answering. I asked what kinds, and she listed a fewâTurkey, Italian, Hamâwithout any real detail.
So I ordered a turkey sandwich, assuming sheâd ask how Iâd like it made. Nope. She grabbed a pre-made sandwich from a fridge stocked with dozens of them. When I asked if it would be made fresh, she replied that she âjust made themâ and it was the same thing. I asked what was on it because I wanted to choose my toppings, and she vaguely said âlettuce and tomato,â pointing to a table of condiments I could add myself. I was honestly stunnedâhow could a deli serve sandwiches like a gas station? Unsurprisingly, it didnât taste fresh, the sandwich was cold, and the veggies were soggy.
Still, I gave them a second try after hearing the hot wieners were good. Same issueâawkward waiting around with no one helping, employees actively avoiding eye contact. Again, I had to ask how to order, which feels ridiculous at a deli counter.
My third visit was the last straw. I just needed a pound of cheese and wanted to support a local business rather than a grocery store. I walked in 23 minutes before closing and was again ignored. I asked if they were still open, and without looking at me, the woman said, âWe will be soonâwhat do you want?â I said I needed cheese. She looked at a man next to her and said, âI donât even have that ready.â That was it. I walked out.
I love supporting small businesses in my town, but this place is a joke. The customer service is nonexistent, the food is subpar, and thereâs a general feeling that no one wants to be thereâstaff or customers. Itâs sad, because this space used to be a community staple. Unfortunately, the new owners have missed the...
Read moreStopped in today during the âsoft opening â. As soon as I entered the store a worker with a big smile welcomed me to McShortagees đ Before I went to the deli counter I walked around the store. There were a lot of local businesses represented which is fantastic. At the counter the staff was extremely friendly and quick. The Italian Stallion Samwich they made me was terrific. It had a ton of cold cuts and fresh veggies. One of the best Iâve had. The store has a great neighborhood vibe to it. Definitely will...
