First, for all of you that were hoping to have a new Deli opening up in Riverside with the closing of Schroders, this is a Pizza/Sub resturant, not an actual traditional Deli.
To fill the void of fresh deli meats and cheeses that Schroders left behind, your best bet is to head to Bella Italian Deli at the end of Forbes Street, on the Wampanoag Trail side.
With that established, my family split a meatball sub, jalapeño poppers, 6 piece jumbo Buffalo wings and the bacon cheese fries. All of it was above average.
The meatballs on the meatball sub were the perfect size for a sandwich. Not so large that you feel like you're eating a hamburger but not so small that they are rolling out of the bread with every bite that you take. The sauce was perfect as well. Not too acidic, had a nice, sweet tone to it, and loaded with perfectly seasoned tomato chunks. (I will definitely be ordering it again)
When it came to the wings, they definitely did not skimp out on the "Jumbo"...one of the Buffalo wing portions was the largest I have ever been served, it literally could have passed for a turkey wing.
The poppers were cooked perfectly. Nice crispy breading on the outside and the cream cheese filling cut through the sharpness of the pepper nicely.
I must admit that I did not try the bacon cheese fries. Not due to any protest on my part as I was willing and looking forward to trying them, but my family made quick work of them while I was pre occupied with the Buffalo wings and I got skunked! For what it's worth, the family seemed to love them and I can say with conviction that they smelled great! (I have to be a little quicker next time...more detailed review to come!)
I do have a general complaint and a minor complaint about the food.
The general complaint is that they close so early! Sunday through Thursday until 8pm and Friday & Saturday until 9pm. I can see my future self craving a tasty late night snack from there and being disappointed that they are closed.
The only complaint I have about the food was that the Buffalo wings did not come with Bleu Cheese or ranch. I am not sure if this was an oversight, or if it is considered a special request, but I'll be sure to ask for it the next time I order the wings.
This would have been a 5 star review if I wasn't missing the Bleu Cheese, but I would still absolutely reccomend that you give Wise Guys a try.
Trust me. I'm I'm fat guy. This is what I do.
P.S. (to the owner) Given the theme of the resturant, It would be awesome if you had the Godfather 1 & 2 playing on an endless loop on one of the screens in the resturant! I don't think anyone would object to passing the time waiting for an order by watching a few minutes AL Pacino at his...
Read moreupdate: 4.5, changing to 5 because you need to try this place at least once ^_^ I am SUPER excited that Wise Guys has opened up a location in my neighborhood. They are a great addition without taking away from the current food choices because they are a little different from the rest and offer items you can't get at the other local pizzerias.
I got "The Godmother" pizza, some garlic knots and cheesecake to start, and let me tell you . . . Pizza was delicious! I love the thin crispy crust, the tomato and basil, and even the solid amount of cheese, but I personally could use more tomato and basil (still delicious and crave worthy though).
Garlic knots were a little too salty for my taste, but still good, and a solid buy for under $3! Cheesecake was also delicious 🤤 and not terrible for $4 and change (I got the strawberry) but a tad small (it's ok, because it's still delicious and I like supporting local)
With an easy to navigate online ordering portal, delivery and pickup (I picked up) the kind workers, delicious food that's steps away from the more traditional menus at the other local pizza joints; all in all this is a great strong new addition to Riverside that I hope sticks!! Definitely...
Read moreMy wife and I split the meatball sub, had some fries and some mozzarella sticks. Here's the break down: The sub was great, bread was toasted, meatballs and cheese were delicious. The sauce was also very good, and that's super important for a place that has pizzas, subs, and calzones, gotta have good sauce. I gave it a night to see if it gave any acid reflux but nope, good quality sauce on that sandwich. Second, the fries were very good, crispy and flakey but even with delivery (which was quick) they still held up well. The mozzarella sticks weren't anything to write home about, but they weren't bad, again the marinara sauce with them made it much better. Overall it was really good, the fella who took our order was nice, the lady delivery driver was nice and the food was good, you can tell they care about your business and that's big for me. Glad to have you...
