When you find yourself more hungry than usual in East Stroudsburg, PA there is one option that sits atop the mountain of belly grumbles and endless hangry emotions, welcome to Khan’s Mongolian Grill. Khan’s sits in a shopping complex with ample parking and access to the building and could honestly be missed completely by passer-by’s if they did not know exactly what they were looking for. We are hoping no one passes Khan’s by…and you’ll soon see why.
Firstly, during these crazy times of Covid-19 and social distancing, for a “buffet style” establishment, Khan’s is on top of their game. First, they bring you a pair of gloves you must wear when going up to the islands to select your items. They also bring plates to your table as opposed to you getting them from the island so that you are not touching any plates you aren’t using. All staff is in masks and they require you wear one as well when away from your table and their grill cooks have numbered sections for you to place your plate so that they can attempt to keep you socially distanced at the grill as well.
So, the premise of Khan’s is that there is a gigantic round grill where there are a few cooks working and you go to the islands of the “buffet” and select raw items for them to cook for you. There is a healthy mix of proteins, vegetables, noodles, rice, sauces, and more that you can select from when mentally preparing a dish. Once you have selected these items you then bring them to a very large circular grill where a chef is waiting to prepare this meal for you. The trips to the grill are unlimited and you can make an insane amount of different combinations.
For my first plate I decided to select the following options for the chef to prepare: Shrimp, Pork, Chicken, mushrooms, scallions, bean sprouts, rice noodles, and their house special sauce. This sauce had a great flavor and added some nice zing and a little spice to the dish. Not spicy enough for me personally though (which you will see reflected in my second dish) but for any person who is not huge on spice, it was delicious. All of the proteins and vegetables were very fresh and cooked quite well. I was very impressed after my first plate.
For my second plate I decided to go with: Beef, Shrimp, Egg, carrot, broccoli, cabbage, garlic sauce, and hot chili oil. I went with no noodles or rice on this dish to cut down a little of the carbs (especially because I know there’s sugar in the garlic sauce) and the dish was just as good as the first one. The hot chili oil really made everything else pop and it was all just very refreshing, and I again cannot begin to explain my pleasure with how well the items were prepared.
Prior to deciding to dine at Khan’s on this day I was at a local market and thought of maybe grabbing myself some cocktail shrimp for lunch. It would have cost me $8 to get some shrimp that more than likely would have left me feeling hungry when I was done. At Khan’s for my appetizer, soup, two full plates of food, and diet soda I paid just over $11. No-brainer of the century.
We are so very eager to visit Khan’s once again when Covid is a thing of the past so there are no gloves, masks, etc. for sure. That is not to say that we would not go back during this period because they did a stand-up job of making sure everyone’s health and safety was at the forefront of the situation. We received solid service, an excellent hot and fresh cooked meal that was very very strong considering cost vs. value, and another place to tell others to visit. You know the drill…Khan’s Mongolian Grill -...
Read moreI I recently had the pleasure of dining at this wonderful Mongolian buffet restaurant that left a lasting impression on me. The atmosphere was vibrant, with constant joyful yelling in Mongoljana creating an authentic and lively ambiance that transported me to a different world. The habachi preparators showcased their culinary skills with mesmerizing flair, adding an interactive element to the dining experience.
One of the standout features of this buffet was the outstanding sushi selection. Each piece was impeccably crafted, showcasing a harmonious blend of flavors and textures that exceeded my expectations. The variety was impressive, offering a delightful journey through the world of sushi.
The menu included a unique disclaimer that caught my attention: "it waste food will be extra charge." This environmentally conscious approach not only encourages mindful eating but also adds a commendable touch to the overall dining experience. It reflects the restaurant's commitment to minimizing food wastage, a value that deserves appreciation.
One interesting observation was the hot and sour soup, which deviated from the norm by being exceptionally thick. This unconventional take on a classic dish added a delightful twist to the traditional flavors, making it a memorable part of the meal.
A testament to the restaurant's commitment to customer satisfaction was an incident involving a friend's seafood allergy. When they called ahead to inquire about the allergy, they were pleasantly surprised to be told they could make their own food in the kitchen. This level of accommodation and transparency is a rare find in the dining world, and it truly sets this establishment apart.
Addressing concerns from previous reviews, I was relieved to find no signs of bugs during my visit. The cleanliness and hygiene standards were exemplary, ensuring a worry-free dining experience.
In conclusion, this Mongolian buffet restaurant is a hidden gem that offers much more than just a meal. From the lively atmosphere and skilled habachi preparators to the exceptional sushi and unique menu disclaimers, it stands out as a delightful culinary destination. The commitment to customer satisfaction and environmental consciousness further enhance its appeal. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking a memorable and diverse...
Read moreI just took my son here for his birthday. It's one of his favorite places to eat, but we hadn't been there since right before the pandemic. We're both extremely picky eaters, which makes the whole "decide what you want, then we'll cook it for you" concept absolutely perfect for us. He loves their General Tso chicken (you have to ask for it from the appetizer menu, but it's included in the buffet price) and their Lo Mein (prepped on the grill). I always get the cheese wontons (off the menu), then make my own picky-person meal with Lo Mein noodles, curry sauce mixed with garlic and ginger, and sometimes either chicken or tofu, depending on my mood. Sometimes, I get really wild and throw a little corn into the mix. :D It's always delicious and we're always completely stuffed when we leave!
One thing I want to mention, since I see a lot of complaints about the size of the appetizers that you have to order off the menu: yes, they're small portions, but you CAN ask for more than one of something at a time. I always ask for two servings of the cheese wontons, for example. I actually like that these things aren't on the buffet because it means they're always hot and fresh when I order them. It doesn't take long to get them, either. We ask for them when we order our drinks, and by the time we get back to the table they're waiting for us.
If possible, I do recommend going outside normal lunch or dinner rush hours. We went at 1PM last time and there were only about two other customers, so service was very fast.
It's true that some of the staff is less than friendly at times. The people at the grill have always been wonderful when I've gone, but we've had some curt waitresses in the past. Not rude or nasty or anything, just curt. It's not bad enough to knock stars off, though, because they still do an excellent job. They're easy to find when you need them and quick to put in your order, bring you what you need, etc.
If you're looking for a mostly-Chinese-food buffet where you can customize everything to your liking and have it cooked right in front of you, this is a great...
