After dinner during our Labor Day trips we stop at Marion's almost nightly. From the homemade drum sticks to the waffle cones to my favorite Boston Cooler ( extra thick ). It's a treat for an end of summer trip.
It's gotten a tad pricey. I'm not gonna lie. Four of us. Two waffle cones. A small Boston Cooler and a shake was $25. The place is a quaint old fashion decor ice cream parlor. Staff ( gentlemen at the window is all business ) good when busy, they moved the line quickly.
I see reviews that speak of and I agree 1000%. To announce and put someone on the spot for tipping scoopers is uncomfortable ! Everything is tip these days. Its shoved in our faces. Some justifiable. Most not ! ( Fast food for example ).
That knocked a star off for me. There's a better way to present the idea of tipping the scoopers then shouting it in our faces ! By our house downstate. They have a picture board of the activities they do with there employees with tip money and so on. Show kids going to colleges and things. They do not announce " would you like to add a tip for our scoopers ? ". And you sitting there feeling obligated to spend even more for those four items pushing the bill to $30.
So. Even though we go almost nightly. We may take a walk down the street. I'm sure we will be back as the items we ordered were quite tasty. But there are also other options to maybe get some fudge and ice cream at the...
Read moreIs this one of those restaurants that they get paid to be mean to you? The place was cool, old decorations and coke stuff everywhere. On the other hand I have not been treated this bad in my entire life. We walk in and the host asks us how many people we have we didnt know so it took us a minute to count, and figure out who was here, who was in the bathroom and who was on the way. The lady remarkd "they cant even count". While moving the tables to put one together for us, the waitress told one of the people with us that he can move or shes not putting the table together. While she was taking our drink order she had an attitude that people wanted coffee and water. After she took our order we talked about all the comments the women had to us and decided that we were not going to pay a place that treated us that way the first 5 minutes we were there. Left and went to G's pizza, we told our waitress about the situation and she told us that she constantly gets people in there complaining about the service next door. Not a good way to make out-of-towners...
Read more1st of all we have been vacationing in tawas, and visiting Marion’s multiple times each trip, for over 20 years, it was always part of our vacations, we loved it. When Covid hit they had the inside shut down for 4 years, having to order out side at one window making the wait to get ice cream much longer. we just visited Marion’s the other day, this year they have the door open, you can go inside to look at the ice cream but you must go back outside to the window to order, this makes zero sense people were walking in walking out the same door. Also they used to be open inside to eat your ice cream and also order other foods for years we would visit in the morning to get biscuits & gravy, and dining inside was nice giving the old soda shop vibe. Now I know they are famous for their 2 scoop single and 3 scoop double ice cream cones but just the other day I ordered the 3 scoop double and it was $9.52. That is friking CRAZY! For an ice cream cone nope that may have been our last trip to Marion’s, 24+ years and...
