Right to the point, not bad but not great. We enjoyed dinner here as a party of 4, the environment is between casual and business casual. I enjoyed the atmosphere for the most part and with some of the prices I expected the food would speak for itself.
Sadly I think it was lacking to get a better star rating. I ordered the fancy duck fat whiskey drink which was enjoyable but the duck fat flavor didn't really come through so I think it's just a selling feature (that's fine, the drink was still good). Following that I had the lamb which the server gave me fair warning that it was pretty fatty, (she wasn't wrong) I still enjoyed it until I got to the second and third piece which were cut thinner so rather than being medium rare they were well done which was very unfortunate. Another note for this dish, please update your website menu price which was $42 for the lamb and $54 on the menu when ordering, this is enough of a price jump to correct it in a timely manner.
I can't speak too much for the other dishes but my father got the sirloin which he said he enjoyed and it looked very good, my mother got the salmon which didn't seem bad but wasn't good enough to make her comment on how good it was either, and finally my wife got the pork belly which she enjoyed.
After dinner we ordered several desserts and I tried the chocolate cake which was nice but lacking in flavor, maybe adding a bit more of the sauce it came with or something else to help elevate the sponge cake would make it better.
Overall, I would probably come back but I would venture out to try other places downtown...
Read moreMy husband and I dined here for the first time for his birthday and the only thing that wasn’t perfect was our table. When I reserved on OpenTable I asked for a window seat and when we arrived they were all taken, so that was immediately disappointing. But the food was wonderful, we really liked sharing the mixed grill for two! Even the house salad was surprisingly good, I normally forgo salads but I loved the avocado and pepitas. They let us substitute the papas bravas for truffle fries, which was also amazing. Our drinks were great too, we did the Happy Hour old fashioned and lemon drop, then my husband got the draft Pilsner with a shot and I did the Hemingway #2 with some simple syrup. We also got two desserts, but I’m sad the bread pudding was off the menu! Bring back bread pudding!! Our coffee crème brûlée was a bit thick on top, I kinda felt like I was eating a window pane, but it was delicious underneath. Our server was Sophia, she was awesome ❤️ We did debate whether to go to Salt + Iron or here, and I’m glad we chose Charcoal in the end. We...
Read moreThis is a very cool restaurant, but they need to upgrade the quality of the ingredients and the cooking (both a big deal).
They have a nice selection of draft beers and their wine selection was less than I expected. The glass pours of wine and cider are generous. We started with the cheese plate which also had generous portions but was all soft cheese, but it was very good nonetheless and you will need an extra baguette.
My wife had the linguini with Dungeness Crab, while the portion was massive the pasta was well over cooked and the crab was minimal. The worst part was she had a stomach ache much of the night. I had the pork tenderloin which came with a great corn side and an alien green mashed potato. The pork was somehow medium but also dry. The portion again was generous.
The service was outstanding and it feels like everyone is watching and...
