My daughter and I had a day set aside and our goals were: local shops, indie bookstore, and great brunch. After some discussion, Edmonds was our destination. First impression off the bat, we walked in as the only people in the shop at that time and were not greeted, which ok not a big deal, but EVERY subsequent person was greeted. To the point it became a joke. The romance section is an afterthought, a couple of small shelves tucked UNDER the checkout counter, where I had to wait a minute for someone to move so I could look at the titles. It was a meh selection, roughly 40ish books and nothing that grabbed my attention. The fiction shelves were OK but there was a group of 3 women talking a) very loudly and b) very judgy about the books (oh I read that one, it's no good; this one is good, I already own it and will lend it to you; this one is so boring). Their conversation was distracting. Another woman was taking photos of books she liked and was telling her friend that she would buy them later on Amazon. Not the indie bookstore vibe I was going for. Towards the back there is a used book display, and some other knick knacks. I was not impressed overall. Some of these things are not the fault of the bookseller, to be sure. But overall, especially considering we made a special trip to find and support an indie bookstore, I was disappointed. After 20 minutes, I found a hardcover I didn't have yet, a Pulitzer winner, and checked out. Even that experience left me feeling meh. It was a Sunday afternoon on a rainy day. I wish we had gone...
Read moreThis is my hometown bookshop, I've been coming in here since my adult children were tiny, it hasn't changed much and I'm happy about that. ou won't find the cheap pricing of Amazon or Barnes and Noble here but you will find deep book lover knowledge by the awesome owner and staff, get personalized recommendations and contribute to a small business owners livelihood, which imo is WAY better than saving a few bucks. It's small and can get crowded easily but everyone is super nice and you can always find a little nook to tuck yourself into to flip through the pages of a book. I love walking through Edmonds, getting a coffee, grabbing a bite to eat and then hitting up the tea shop and this bookstore. If Nama's was still in business it would be a...
Read moreThis review is for the service I received today. An employee who I have never seen before in the store was rude and made me feel like I was doing her a disservice just by asking a question. I’ll admit I may have been unclear but her response was to bark at me then to shake her head. A second employee helped me find the book but also treated me as if I should have known where the book was located. I have generally loved this bookstore and its employees. A week ago I felt like the clerk was less kind than I’ve experienced but nothing like today. I’m not sure what is going on, but it’s a shame. I’ll be going elsewhere in the future...
