I think this was the first time I've had dinner at a Chili's in probably 8+ years. We rarely go to chain restaurants for dinner because we prefer supporting locally owned small businesses. But we were in the RV and limited to where we could park it. So we ended up parking it in the Walmart parking lot and walking to Chili's which is in the same shopping plaza for my fellow RVrs.
I had to write a review and give a shout out to our server, Darren. I'm legally blind and use a guide cane. After being seated, Darren came over with a Braille menu for me! I've been in 1000s of restaurants across the USA and never has anyone offered me a Braille menu. The times I've struggled in horribly lit restaurants with teeny tiny font menus or wanted to cry as some ridiculously incompetent server has pointed to some board up high on a wall and told me to read it for the menu is just too many to count. Going to unfamiliar restaurants when you're disabled and blind can always bring about anxiety. Darren's ability to recognize my guide cane and Chili's actually having a Braille menu available should be commended. Every restaurant should have Braille menus but unfortunately the world we live in is NOT accessible to the blind and disabled.
I did not need the Braille menu bc I have enough central vision remaining to read the large print on Chili's menu and Chili's restaurant was well-lit. It was the thought that counted. I really appreciated that Darren saw me, a blind person, and offered a tool to make the restaurant more accessible for people like me. This is how it should be done everywhere. Thank...
Read moreI would like to start by saying that our waitress was fantastic. She was the highlight of our 1-night stay in Effingham. Very personable with an overall sweet and kind demeanor.
As far as the restaurant, it was fairly clean. We arrived around 9p and there were only a couple of other customers inside.
The food was quite disappointing. So much so that even our waitress was surprised. lol
Ordered our usual Smokehouse platter with 3 options. Btw, Chili’s…please bring back the corn - it was the best part of y’all’s menu!! Anyway, the chicken strips were old and so dried out I could barely cut it with my knife. I tried to chew through a piece of it but I couldn’t make myself finish it. The fries had been sitting under the light for quite some time as they too were just dry…luckily I smothered them in ketchup and it helped them go down. The sausage was amazing and the quesadillas were fresh and hot. I tried the mac and cheese in place of my usual corn and it was spectacular! May I be so bold to say my new favorite side here??!!
Overall, there was enough decent food to not make dinner a complete bust but I think this should be a teachable moment for cooks that you should never serve food to paying customers that you wouldn’t wanna eat yourself. That’s just not cool! Take a little pride in the food you’re preparing and we will most definitely...
Read moreI frequent this restraunt often, since I work and shop in Effingham. The last 2 times we have ATTEMPTED to have dinner or lunch here, our treatment was very inappropriate. I have difficulty walking, and walk with a cane so it is difficult for me to stand very long. They acted like there was nothing they could do to accommodate me until a table was ready, I was asked to walk all the way back out to my vehicle. This last time was jus this past Saturday(10.17.2020). There were numerous 4 top tables, we had 5 in our group. Keep in mind I cant walk well or stand for a long period. I was offered a PUB table which first of all my short legs make it difficult to get up on the seats, and the strength in my legs wont allow it. The 2 ladies told us if we didnt take a pub table, we would have to wait over an hour. We asked why we couldnt have a 4 top with a chair at the end. Their reply was, "it's a fire hazatd." Yet when leaving we noticed two child seats at the end of 2 tables. What is the difference? There isnt a difference. The people working this establishment need some training in being accommodating and courteous to customers. Right now the only thing making me to want to go back, is the food. So frustrated. I really would like to hear from someone from corporate on this.. Sincerely, Cindy Perry
