Better than Phils BBQ, hands down.
My husband and I stumbled across this place a few weeks back and even right now my mouth is watering thinking about how incredible the food was! It seems like a little hidden hole in the wall from the street...but never have looks been more deceiving!
Izzy's is AMAZING! Being from the Mid West and moving to San Diego, it hasn't been the easiest task finding an acceptable BBQ that lives up to the BBQ taste, down home cooking that I expect.
However, Izzy's hit the spot in every way possible. The brisket sandwich was on point. Fresh cut fries...amazing. Even the baked beans were made the way we would expect back home. Their homemade sauce just tops everything off!
My husband got ribs, which were fall off the bone delicious (I had to try a bite!) You can obviously taste the love they put into their food.
Staff was very friendly and courteous, atmosphere is a relaxed small town diner feel. Pretty cool decor also :)
I will DEFINITELY eat here again...and again...and again.
Goodbye Phil's BBQ, you are no match to the quality and taste of Izzy's, I bid you farewell overpriced and over hyped crappy BBQ, you will...
Read moreBest diner food we've had in memory. I ordered the Southern Scramble and my partner got the veggie scramble. Both were excellent.
We asked for a side of salsa and it was fresh and full of flavor. Also, the hashbrowns! They're hard to find cooked right with a crisp outer layer but a warm al dente middle.... Izzy's nailed it.
And can't forget the cinnamon roll french toast! It was the best we've had, much better than some hipster breakfast places in Hillcrest or North Park.
For the service, the other reviews are right. Everyone is friendly and treats you like family. The vibe is very relaxed. A medium drone of casual background conversation with some chill tunes peaking in around the edges.
This is our new go-to spot for a classic down-to-earth American diner breakfast. You may have to wait if you go during a busy time, but it's...
Read moreMy mom loves this place, she only ever orders pancakes and now I know why. My mom, niece, daughter and I went here for brunch. My daughter and I arrived first, we sat ourselves at a booth. They offered us drinks while we wait. The waitress was nice enough, but not very attentive. When my mom and niece arrived, the waitress came and asked if we were ready. They just sat down, hadn't even looked at the menu. My mom, niece and daughter ordered the short stack of pancakes with sausage or bacon. I ordered an omelet with little pancakes on the side instead of bread. They were happy, my omelet wasn't very flavorful, it tasted kinda watery. But the pancakes are great a bit thin but buttery, melt i. Yoir mouth yummy. If I return here I will only be getting the pancakes. And I won't recommend unless your looking for...
