My husband and I are big foodies and try different restaurants and we went here for breakfast one day. We sat outside which was very good but the breakfast and service was very average and the price was very expensive. For a small pan of eggs and sausage (4 eggs and some meat sausage) and a plate of cheese, olives, honey and 4 small bureks and a teapot, we paid $65 and with the minimum tip it was $75 which is very high for such a breakfast. This restaurant is a Turkish restaurant and I expected a Turkish breakfast but not only did it not look like a Turkish breakfast I can even say it was lower than the usual breakfast we make at home. Interestingly, they had simit bread and spinach burek in their baklava but it was not in the restaurant. They only served a cheese burek for breakfast which looked like anything but burek. Basically, a cheese burek is baked in the oven but they fried the burek and there was no cheese in it and it was so... It tasted very burnt. I just want the mistakes to be corrected by telling the truth. I have been to the most expensive restaurants in America and even other countries to try different dishes. If the quality and service are excellent, I have no problem paying a lot of money, even if it is a lot. But some of the prices really don't match the type of food and service. I hope they fix it. Otherwise, they will lose...
Read moreSuch a charming Mediterranean restaurant! From the moment we stepped inside, we were warmly greeted by the beautiful decor that lovingly paid tribute to the restaurant's Turkish roots.
The food was an absolute highlight, leaving us craving more. We had the Suculsku Yumurta and Menemen and it was evident that these dishes were prepared fresh and with utmost care. They tasted like home cooking which, for us living on the road, is a welcome change from other restaurants. The portions were well-sized and satisfying. That coupled with the taste makes the price point beyond worth it for us ($20-$25 per dish).
The staff/owners deserve accolades for their outstanding hospitality. They were not only genuinely kind and welcoming, but also extremely knowledgeable about their menu. Their recommendations for what to try were spot on and added an extra layer of enjoyment.
My only suggestion to enhance the ambiance would be to have some Mediterranean/Turkish music playing in the background. This would immerse diners even more deeply in the culture and complement the overall dining experience.
Overall, this is now one of my favorite restaurants to visit in El Cajon. We’ll definitely be coming back next time we’re...
Read moreLocated in the heart of El Cajon, Sultan is vibrant with Turkish design and filled with an amazing selection of foods! I had the pleasure of meeting the owner who recommended I try the Turkish coffee (extra strong and how I like it), the pistachio latte, and cappuccino for my mom. The pistachio latte is unique and cannot be replicated. It has a toasted nutty profile and really puts Starbucks to shame 12/10 recommend! For breakfast, I got to try the Turkish version of eggs and sausage served with pita bread and a chicken salad for my mom with plenty of food left over. For dessert I went next door to try some Turkish delicacies also part of the same establishment and had the baklava cheesecake which was so unique - crunchy earth flavor from the baklava flakes with a soft tangy cream was to die for. I also tried the berry pudding that was lightly sweetened and filled with fresh fruits. I’ll definitely make another...
