Golden Phoenix Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in El Campo

Overall, Golden Phoenix is a great place. We've ordered several times for take out, and been there for the buffet once before, all without incident. Unfortunately, during our latest visit (4/30/23), both my husband and I experienced food poisoning symptoms after having the buffet. The food TASTED wonderful - nothing giving any warning. The only thing that hubby & I ate alike was the General Tso's, so I'm fairly certain that was the culprit. Since hubby ate only a small amount, his symptoms were very mild, but mine was more severe. I wish I could say more good things about this place. Let's start from the atmosphere outside, which is a poorly maintained building and parking lot. Inside is not much better furnishings very old and dull. Food was such a disappointment that every chicken dish was poorly prepared and meat was not fresh. The shrimp was hard, chewy little pieces not tasty at all. The lady that set us became annoyed.We had a 92 year old Korean War veteran who took a little time to sit. She was spoken to by another employee in her native language. Although we could not understand the conversation her face expressions, they said it all. Go give it a try. Just be warned very poor...

This place was rather good from my experience, with was about 10 after they opened on Saturday, this might of been why the food was quite tender and flavorful for a buffet.

Though the place is small not just for seatting but in food selection too. Everything you'd normally find at a Chinese buffet are there but don't expect anything extra.

The restroom like the rest of the restaurant is small and not of great quality, but wasn't dirty or unstocked.
