One of my wife's friends had told her they like Golden Corral. We didn't even know its venue but decided to try it out after a drive from Carlsbad Caverns to El Paso on our way to Prescott early in August, 2014.
IT'S NOT JUST THE SMELL, IT'S THE BIO HAZARD! I wonder how often employees really wash their hands when a restaurant bathroom is in a crisis. This one had a mixture vomit, urine and toilet paper in the stalls. It wasn't new. I informed the manager that I'd be looking into this before leaving and calling the health department if it wasn't addressed. The problem was eventually addressed by the manager. She leaned on the wall and chatted with an employee while blocking off the bathroom. An underling with a single mop in hand appeared. Later the mess was invisible but its powerful smell lingered on.
VERN, VERN, WHEN YOU GONNA LEARN? I should have paid attention to such a strong warning signal that the offensive restroom generously provided. I should have elected to find another restaurant but I like a good buffet and they had ribs and steak. This was no Sizzler, regardless of what you may think of Sizzler. It was no comparison to Hometown Buffet either. The fare was abysmal. Taste ranged from offensive to uninspiring. Only the chicken rose above the sub-par level but just by a little. My wife said her broccoli was so mushy and so salty she couldn't swallow it.
PRICE DOESN'T ALWAYS MEAN BETTER QUALITY At $26 for lunch with one of us only drinking water, I'd have thought there was enough fiscal power in the price to provide a decent meal but unfortunately, I'm afraid that even the benefit provided by double that amount wouldn't be enough to inspire anything better.
A BRIGHT SPOT IN THE EXPERIENCE: The server who helped us, Shirley, was very exceptionally nice and conscientious toward our needs and wants. I made sure her generous tip made it directly into her hand and told her she was great and that she should find a better place to work.
There may be other restaurants in this chain that are better but this one is enough to persuade any other choice in the future.
I try to avoid online whining but my comment earlier to stay away is unfortunately justified and would be well heeded by others until improvement becomes obvious. It will have to be from someone...
Read moreThis visit to Golden Corral was not a very pleasant one! Paid for my meal at the register as usual like everyone does and went and took my seat at a table. Set my receipt on the table as well as my iced tea and proceeded to get a plate and utensils to get some food. When I got back to my table my tea was gone my receipt was gone as if I was never there! When asked of the server where my receipt and iced tea were, his response was the other server must have taken it! As a businessman for over 50 plus years, as most businessmen and women do, we use our receipts when we're dining out or entertaining possible clients as a write-off. When I asked for another receipt to use for this purpose, it was like trying to get a ring out of a bull's nose! I was told the reason it was taking so long is because they were having an inspection and that I would just have to wait! As the old saying goes; actions speak louder than words, it was obvious by the actions of taking so long to get a copy of my receipt that it showed me as a patron we are last in line to be taken care of when Golden Corral is having an inspection! So with that being said, if you are a business person and you go to Golden Corral with employees, a possible client that you're entertaining or for any other reason that is business related, please put your receipt in your pocket so it doesn't get picked up and thrown away the moment you get up to go get...
Read moreBeen here a couple times recently. This use to be one of the favorite Golden Corral stores to dine at. The food needs to rotated more often bc it looks dry and burnt basically, like it’s been sitting there longer than it’s supposed to. We came to find out the lemonade from the aquas frescas isn’t made from real lemons either. The taste reminded me of lemon pinesol. The food needs to get temped bc it is NOT hot, not even warm for that matter. Someone will probably end up with food poisoning, if not already. The server didn’t come around as often to pick up dirty plates or for refills either. Also, the plates for buffet are super old and should get replaced. They might be there longer than the general mngr has been working for GC. Another major thing is the restroom. It smells far more than a restroom should smell, very unappealing and unappetizing for a restaurant. There was also toilet paper in different stalls. It was busy, but not that busy. Overall, maybe it’s time for new mngt or re-training of mngt and employees. Please do better bc as it is, it is hard to place good places to eat in the NE without having to drive 20-30 minutes in opposite directions. As of now, GC west side is the best. We stopped going to Lee Trevino years ago bc of the same issues listed above....
