I love King's X, I've known about this place primarily because of "Lucy's" since the early 90s, when I used to work right down the street with Dr. Llamas. (RIP) where we would visit during our lunch break. The place hasn't really changed much, other than the outdoor patio, which is just okay, nothing to write home about. This patio is pretty large with tables and chairs, but feels somewhat lonely and detached from the bar.
The interior of the bar, hasn't changed much either, it feels familiar. I did notice a few new things in the bar, such as a drum set, (near the front) which makes me think they might have live entertainment on the weekends. At the rear of the bar I noticed "Las maquinitas", or casino machines, a couple of pool tables, darts, and even a shuffleboard. (My favorite) We were there early evening Sunday, so there was plenty of room, and all games where readily available.
We hunkered down at the bar area, where they gladly took our order from Lucy's, which happens to be connected directly to King's x. I am one of those persons who usually sticks to favorites, so naturally I ordered a plate of "Taco's Antonia" (my favorite) while my husband ordered burger and fries. I'll try to be brief, these tacos are the best tacos in El Paso. If you are a local and have not had the opportunity to try these tacos, I highly recommend you make an effort to visit Lucy's, these tacos are so delicious. The "desebrada" meat, is soft juicy and delicious. The taco shell is seasoned with some spices that are visible (in color) and most definitely noticed by your taste buds, on the inside, there is a nice crunch that comes from the cabbage & tomato (yes, cabbage) that when come together, is heaven in your mouth. The burger & fries were fine too. To wash is all down, a bloody Mary or beer, which are both on The Happy Hour menu. Overall, good time, delicious food, plus not to mention "Steelers Nation" (My favorite)...
Read moreWe went to King's X for the Wednesday Blues Jam while visiting here in El Paso. All the information said that the jam begins at 8:00pm. We arrived shortly after 8 and saw that the parking lot was empty. I went inside first to make sure we had the right place/time. Inside I met a few band members setting up. They were very friendly and encouraged me to meet the leader when he arrived. I did. He said that (as I've found normal with blues jams) they would play the first set then begin inviting people to sit in. Typically the host band would leave the stage and a band would be created from the sign up sheet. As it was now about 8:30 and I was apparently the only other musician there, sitting in seemed a reasonable option. The band started playing without a sound check (other than two "test, test, 1 2 3") and it was loud. The room was tiny. The leader yelled at the bass player between phrases to turn it down, then the PA speaker died. Between songs they got it going but again way too loud. Now, you may think that the music wasn't too loud, I'm just too old. By now it was almost 9:00 and I still was the only other musician. My wife, son and I were the only audience other than the guy at the bar who kept yelling at the band to leave the PA off. The only other group sitting at a table went outside because of the volume. The players in the band were all awesome musicians and I would have loved to jam with them but we left as my wife and son were seriously concerned about damaging their hearing. They've both been in the audience listening to me iiib a variety of bands/venues for more than 30 years and this is the first time we've walked out due...
Read moreSam provided terrible service as a bartender, and apparently the owner is okay with that. Had the worst attitude and should never serve again. He purposely would ignore my requests for drinks without any merit.
For the record, on my Google review for this mess of a place, I’m not sure whom the owner talked to but I was not told to leave as I left on my own. Otherwise, it’s definitely a lie from the owner himself to save face, which isn’t helping resolve the real issue(s).
As a business owner myself, I can see how this bar has stayed stagnant for years apparently, without much growth. I’ve never had service where I had to literally raise my hand just to get the bartender’s attention, several times at that. This place is extremely unprofessional and that kind of demeanor should NEVER be tolerated at a workplace, even for a rundown bar.
Word of advice: it should be wise to get our facts straight before simply “hearing” about things, and then proceeding to try and protect your already inadequate staff.
Do better, get your staff to work on their customer service skills, and make sure they’re doing their job professionally before others start complaining about it as well.
I highly don’t recommend this place. Everyone else can do better, unless you’re okay with bad service, horrible seats and furniture that can cause injuries, and a...
