OKAY, so I took my Galaxy to go get the screen repaired because i cracked it and needed it fixed. I took it to powered by tech and they had to order the part. It was gonna cost a little more than 200 bucks, and they said it would take about 3 to 4 business days to arrive. Well more than a week and half went by and I finally got a call that my part arrived. I was close to demanding my deposit back and taking my business else where. But whatever I gave them the benefit of the doubt took my phone in and it took about an hour to repair like they claimed. After it was done they told me they wanted to check all the functions to see if it would work, and it was fine. All was well they had me sign a contract with a warranty saying that if i brought it on another time it wouldn't be as expensive. well about two weeks later my phone got a little wet, and shut off completely. the phone itself is supposed to be water proof, and before the repair It had gotten wet with no problem. when I turned the phone on the camera did not work, the flash, or audio. I was MAD, i immediately assumed the company ruined my phone, but it is a little more complicated than that. I called ahead of time the next day asking if they could look at my phone and the damage. They said they were not responsible for water damage. ( that of course being my fault, i fully understand) But it seemed sketchy to me. I took it in and asked what my options were as far as fixing it went. The man at the counter- i dont remember his name but will keep it disclosed anyways- half hardheartedly told me that any "water resistant" phone had no guarantees as far as water resistance goes. But i knew that my phone had been tested in water and could withstand a couple yards deep with no problem. He said he could do a water treatment for 80 dollars, and that if the little white strip that is water sensitive turns red that the chances of it working again were less than slim. He also let me know that when they repair the screen itself they break the water resistant seal, but in our initial meeting that had not been disclosed to me at all. Not responsible for water damage, also not telling me they break the seal that only Samsung has. (which is not true a lot of other places will do that for you). I decided not to pay the 80 dollars and left feeling defeated. Well miraculously a couple weeks later the camera started to work again! i was so happy, and glad I didnt pay for another repair.
** My thoughts over all about the service: they were nice and fixed my phone. will I go back? no I will not. just because I would like to have all the info when it comes to where my money is going that I work hard for, and they did not tell me certain things that maybe would have been helpful. I get it money is important all the way around when it comes to businesses, but I did not feel a sense of reassurance. This place specifically did not feel people oriented, just getting the service done and moving along. My advice, feel for your clients and when they come back take some...
Read moreOn 1 Nov I go in to get my Pixel 2's screen repaired but they tell me it will take 2 business days for the replacement screen to come in. Since it's a Friday this means the screen will not be in until Tuesday. Guy 1 says it will be $180 for everything, I say ok and pay $202. I come back Tuesday morning to drop my phone off at 10am. Guy 2 tells me it will be ready around 4:30pm. Cool. I come back at the agreed time and pick my phone up with a new screen. I go to school that evening and don't pay much mind to the phone. The next morning, as I'm trying to install a new screen protector I noticed there's plastic tabs sticking out from under the new screen, and the screen is not sitting flush in this area. I go back, at 10am. Apparently it's a protective plastic film from the manufacturer that the tech who "fixed" my phone left behind. He says he can just cut it with some scissors, but I tell him I don't want that plastic film there because it's pushing up on the screen and it doesn't belong there. So Guy 2 says he can remove it but I have to leave my phone with him for 2 hours in order to let the water-proofing silicone, that they use, fully dry. I frustratingly leave my phone behind and come back later at the agreed time to pick it up. Guy 2 says it's fixed, and he offers to install a screen protector on it. He installs the screen protector, and my phone finally appears to be good to go. I go to lunch and notice that my phone is turning on the Active Edge Google Assistant on its own, sometimes it registers screen touches, others it doesn't. I take my phone back to CPR, I tell Guy 2 what's going on and he tells me it's a faulty screen. I'm livid at this point. But I need a phone. He tells me he can have a new screen in overnight and my phone will be repaired tomorrow. He also suggests I to leave my phone overnight and the screen will be installed as soon as it arrives. I once more agree because what else can you do at this point? I've already paid. And I don't want to buy a new phone. I ask for a receipt and when I get to the car I noticed he gave me another person's receipt with personal info and a balance for Iphone repair. I walk back inside and tell Guy 2 that he gave me the wrong receipt. He notices his mistake and gives me the correct one. When I return from school, my wife informs that someone from CPR called her and that they will not be able to get the new screen until Monday or Wednesday of the following week at the earliest. It's Thursday morning, just fyi. You can't make this up! I've been back there a total of six times and my issue isn't resolved. Don't pay up front is my warning. If you have a Samsung or Iphone then you're probably fine going here. They say they repair of other different electronics but I wouldn't trust them. Something nice: they seem like cool people outside...
Read moreI used to work here. Even though there are personal hardships between I and a friend, I can say with honesty that Joel is a good business man. I went into contracting after my beginnings there. I can say the short time I was there, my skills excelled to where they are at today because of his methods, approach and sometimes scientific nature behind the repairs. His motto was, and should always be "Not Just the Easy Stuff", because indeed, our repairs would get forensic. He may have a "Don't look behind the wall" policy, however, if one were to ever look behind the monolithic blue wall of his, one will find an ocean of chips and parts and hustling technicians trying to make deadline. I write this not only to "member" the good ol days; rather, I wish to shed some light on the reality of a lot of repair shops in the El Paso area. I will say, with utmost truth, that a good number of shops in the region WILL send your devices to get repaired in Juarez, rather than repair them on site. I have been sub contracted by such shops whenever they need a specialist and don't have enough time to get the device to Juarez. UNLIKE Joels blue wall of privacy and respect, these "shops" will charge you full price for a repair that they outsource for a few pesos to repair in warehouses in Juarez. Not only is this a very shady tactic, however, its a matter of your data in the hands of people you'll never see. And to be honest, without trying to be disrespectful, the folks who are repairing devices for a wage of $10 a day have much more incentive to look through your device and leave back doors. As a certified network administrator and systems engineer, I have personally detected, observed and repaired damages done from malware and identity theft after clients have brought me devices and systems repaired by shops that get their repairs done in Juarez. Generally, however, you'll never know who's gone through your hard drive as it is easy to copy things off unencrypted drives.
So, enough of my PSA. Joel's shop, Powered By Tech, is of the few truly authentic shops out there. I recommend every one of my clients his services because not only do they have the tools, gadgets, and above all; Technique! Him and his techs are genuinely there to take care of your hard earned electronics and devices and above and foremost: RESPECT YOUR PROPERTY AND YOUR PRIVACY.
The only reason why they're not a 5 on google is because they are modest and not every customer can be satisfied. I miss working with Joel and his crew and I wish them...
