Jang Goon Sushi & Korean BBQ — Restaurant in Elk Grove

SO glad this place is finally open, I've been driving by for weeks waiting for it. The wait was completely worth it, the food and service are impeccable. The layout is just right for the size of the building. I was also impressed with all of the interior modifications that have been done since the last tennant. All the furnishings, prep area and sushi counter look brand new and well chosen. The beer selection is much more than I expected with plenty of Japanese staples as well as a few unexpected but welcome additions. Since it was my first trip I ordered the Spiderman roll (soft shell crab and cucumber) it was fantastic and the soft shell crab was done just right. My boyfriend and I try this place last Saturday but unfortunately we weren't wowed by the experience. I felt the fish in my sushi order was on the chintzy side. The Korean BBQ portion of our meal wasn't impressive either. It really didn't seem authentic. I'm used to Korean BBQ houses where you cook your own food and they serve pickled vegetables on the side. Overall this place felt like a knockoff. We've learned our lesson: it's not wise to trust a place that serves two different types of cuisines. NEVER GO HERE. Pictures are misleading. We thought the food portions were large, but they are extremely small and expensive. We ordered 3 rolls and a 3 bento boxes for 4 people and we all left HUNGRY while paying 160$. The food was average for the price and the sauces on all the rolls make them taste the same. I could have went to a fancy restaurant and paid less and left with a full belly. There was limited seating outside with flies trying to take the small amount of food they give you.
