I'm ashamed -- I've been here at least 10-15 times and I've never reviewed it! Don't take it that way, TC (we're on initial-name-basis at this point). This is one of the best restaurants in Elk Grove, and even Sacramento. EG got lucky on this one. With great food, fast service, and good prices.... You can't eat here enough!
Atmosphere: 4/5 -- This is nice place, situated on a usually busy Elk Grove strip mall. Parking in front is uncommon, but there's plenty of places a little further away; no worries. -- The restaurant itself is a modern. The layout inside a little unorthodox; when you walk in there's the main dining area and two tiny benches for waiting. Then there's the kitchen in the middle of the room, with another smaller dining area all the way to the left. It's never really used, and it's just awkward. The dining area is considerably small. -- But other than that, the inside is fine. They even have good music playing, which is unusual nowadays. It's quiet and unobtrusive. I've heard Nujabes playing once or twice!
Service: 3.5/5 -- Service here is hit and miss sometimes, actually. They're always polite, but sometimes understaffed (during busy hours). -- My girlfriend tried calming down two dishes once, and nothing was changed. They might've actually made it spicier, come to think of it... We had so much cold water because of it. -- During busy dinner hours, it CAN be slow. Even pickup orders. And because it's smaller, you might have to wait a little. Try to come during slower hours to take advantage of the service!
Food: 5/5 -- The food is delicious. I've had lots of their dishes, and never really been disappointed. Their drunken noodles are delicious, along with their pineapple fried rice...oh man. -- Other delicious dishes are their duck fried rice, combination BBQ platter (it's called something like that), Tom Yum, and various vegetable dishes are always great. -- Their desserts are great too, from their mango/sticky rice and fried ice cream...yes.
Price: 4.25/5 -- This place always has fair prices, and we've usually been able to keep a meal for 2 between $20-$28. -- I wish they had lunch specials...
The best Elk Grove has to offer! Definitely food to be proud of, no...
Read moreSo I checked out Thai Chili with 2 of my friends for lunch, since it has so many reviews & 4 stars. The server was great. Although he didnt introduce himself so I cant give him a shoutout, he was nice and explained details of the menu to us. He was honest in that he said, I dont know what they do back there, a few times. Hahaha. The menu is extensive, which I hadnt seen at a Thai restaurant before. They have a very large vegetarian menu, which is awesome to offer. The food was, meh. Very Americanized. Now I understand why it has so many reviews and still 4 stars. For me, I am an adventure eater and want the recipes to be authenticly prepared, no matter what the cuisine. I am always searching for authentic Thai food. So I was disappointed by Thai Chili. I had beef Pad Thai and it was saucy and tangy but didn't have that yum factor. It kind of fell flat. The Orange Thai chicken was akin to a Japanese Tonkatsu. (I did ask my friend why she'd order orange chicken at a Thai restaurant. She agreed once it came out that she had expected it to be more akin to the Chinese orange chicken dish. ((Oh boy, lol.)) The yellow curry was apparently good according to my other friend but also very spicy. She had the sticky rice with her meal and said it was good too. All in all, I'd say when you go, just be aware the menu has some dishes on it that I've never seen on a Thai menu before, that dont sound authenticly Thai. Although Thai food is my absolute favorite cuisine, I admit I am no expert, I just know what I like. It seems to me, Thai Chili may be more of a fusion restaurant as their menu offers dishes like orange chicken or teryaki dishes and they even have Pancit which is traditionally a Filipino dish, rather than focusing on authentic Thai flavors. Which is totally cool and seems to be working well for them. Since I'm not into fusion food, I won't be back. Help me find authentic Thai food, wont you? What is your favorite Thai restaurant in the...
Read moreUsed PostMates to order online. I ordered brown rice, steam rice, garlic & pepper, rice noodle soup, and spicy Thai chow Mein. In total $48.85. The chow main had a rancid smell. Could not eat it. We called the restaurant for a refund and unfortunately since we’ve used a 3rd party app they were unwilling to refund me directly. I contacted PostMates via web chat (only way to contact them) and they could not help me. I attempted 4 times with them and they either ended the chat earlier without warning, used the excuse that their system is suddenly having ‘update’ issues or could not find my order because my order did not post to their system. I gave my order number to them in the chat but they still refused to help me and said to call back in 2-3 hours.
Conclusion: Thai Chili lost a customer for life for $15. They can thank PostMates service. I’m not seeking full refund or restaurant t credit. No excuses, if you have a customer that has a genuine reason to dispute service or food you’ve served then you should be responsible to resolve it immediately. The restaurant is responsible for contracting with a 3rd party delivery service that has poor customer service. I should not have to go through this...
