Today my sister, nephew, and I arrived for a fun outing. We were seated right away, placed drink orders right, and were asked if we were ready to order. We were not, so they served us chips. 20 minutes later our server finally came back to take our order and she took my cup to refill it. She left my cup on the stand for 11 minutes before she brought it back to me and when I asked where it had been I was told "It takes a long time for the bubbles to settle" so I asked for a fresh one and it came back with the bubbles settled in less than a minute. 7 or 8 minutes later she came by to refill my sister's drink, the baby's drink, and the chips. She came back with chips and my sister's drink, but not the baby's drink. 25 more minutes and someone else brought out mine and my sister's food and then a few minutes later the baby's food. We asked him the kid drink. The Baby's food was so hot he grabbed the fry and burnt his finger, meanwhile my tacos had sat so long that the tortilla was now soggy and the taco couldn't be picked up and the beans were cold. By this time now the Kid had to use the bathroom so my sister took him and they went in and the child immediately slipped and fell in a puddle of pee. So now he's crying, covered in pee, my sister is now holding a child covered in pee and no one is happy. They leave the restaurant without ever touching their food and I wait another 10 minutes before the server comes to ask if I'd like boxes and then another 6 before I get the check. After she brings me my change I finally ask who the manager on duty was and she says it is her! I was in complete shock because we were under the impression that she had to be new and in training! When I told her I was disappointed her attitude was very flippant and just ya we are busy, but I've been going to this location for years and I've been there when they are busy and I've still recieved excellent service. Everything about today...
Read moreOne of our family's favorite Mexican restaurants, so much that we drive 15-20 minutes each way to pick up food from there.
Food and service at the restaurant is excellent, but the only complaint I have is their online ordering process.
They offer a myriad of ordering service options, but we found inconsistencies with the menu and pricing between the different options. For example, using DoorDash mini tacos aren't on the menu but the restaurant's service Grabull had them but didn't have regular bean & cheese burritos on the menu. Also the pricing differs between each service.
We ended up using DoorDash and when I arrived at the time it said it would be ready, the cashier at the restaurant said it would take another 12 minutes. So I waited in my car and when 12 minutes were up I checked the DoorDash app and it said it would be ready in another 5 minutes. I check again 5 minutes later and it said my order was still being prepared and it would be ready the following minute. But it kept telling me it my order was still being prepared and would be ready the following minute. I became impatient and went inside to see what the issue was, and there was no issue, my order has been sitting there for about 5 minutes but the DoorDash service apparently was not notified! So disappointed.
My disappointment didn't end there. When I got home I discovered that 2 of the 3 consome containers weren't sealed tightly and leaked all over. Now our birria tacos were all soaked & soggy. Also a side of limes was missed and there was a very excessive amount of lettuce and onions on an order of regular tacos.
I'm writing this critical review because this is the 2nd instance in the past 6 months I've had when ordering online for this restaurant and because I want them to improve it, since I really want them to keep our business and keep their loyal customers...
Read moreA Mexican restaurant hidden in a hole in the wall is an easy way to sum up this restaurant.
Although it is a traditional Mexican restaurant with authentic Mexican dishes, the menu is small, and the sauces are "plain" in spiciness. That is not to say that the food isn't good, but it isn't Mexican/Hispanic great.
I personally had the carnitas in my enchiladas with green sauce. I've had better carnitas at more traditional Mexican restaurants, more savory, but the carnitas here were tender. Then, the green sauce, I was expecting a little spiciness, but it was a sweet sauce. The meal was good but lacked strong flavors. Chips and salsa were without spiciness, just home style chips from corn tortillas and Pico de gallo with no spiciness. There was a sauce bar, but nothing of substance.
For Elk Grove, this is the closest thing to a real Mexican food restaurant I've been to so far. I've been to taco "restaurants" where that was their main menu item, but not a full restaurant with full plates.
For the most authentic Mexican restaurant, I'd suggest Tres Hermanas in downtown Sacramento or Cabello Blanco in east Sacramento, but Elk Grove still has a way to go before catering to softer pallets and making rich authentic...
