This review is for their bingsu(shaved ice) only. I was there yesterday and had their mango bingsu. There were several flaws: The shaved ice itself is water based and it quickly lumped together and became crushed ice(like Italian ice). It's was hard on the teeth and I had to keep breaking it down with a flimsy plastic spoon. Maybe it was never shaved but just crushed. The mochi cubes are salty. It may be intended to add a contrast to the otherwise sweet dessert but it didn't. The mango cubes were frozen and remained frozen for some time. Again, hard on the teeth. Corn flakes were added while I guess intended to add a crunch to the otherwise supposedly fluffy shaved ice it just didn't jive. Especially when the clumped ice already was crunchy and hard on the teeth. But at least the flakes tasted fresh. I guess the highlights were the two scoops of mango ice cream but I can buy a quart of that any day for less. I've had bingsu at at lease four different Korean places and this one was just a failure. I was very...
Read moreDuring our pandemic, customer service is key and himan hellos and kindness are so critical for folks when we don’t get out much. I walked in to this Bakery excited to find a new place for our family and wasn’t even greeted with a “Good morning.” The worker (owner?) barely acknowledged me as she continued putting baked goods in bags. I asked if there were any gluten free items - No! Again, it’s like she didn’t even want me in there. I walked around looking at all the items, giving her another chance to be nice. Come on! I was going to bring items home for my kids and husband (who are not GF) but as I looked around and she continued to put out such a negative vibe even while packing the baked goods, I thought, I don’t want to bring this energy back into my home. So I ended up leaving without buying anything. I’ll find another more friendly and tasty place. So my two stars are just for customer service but in today’s climate customer service is what we all...
Read moreThis is a very cozy bakery and cafe located in Koreatown (Rt.40 West) in Ellicott City. It could be easy to miss so look for the Victoria Plaza sign.
I went specifically for one of their cream cakes. The bakery also carries a wide selection both sweet vs savory items not seen in typical local bakeries.
The displays are well laid out. You grab a basket and select items that are neatly wrapped. Cream filled pastries are smooth in texture and I did not find them overly sweet. There were flavors such as strawberry, mocha, Nutella or white cream to name a few. My favorite is their red bean filled doughnut.
I wished I lived closer but maybe it’s a good idea I didn’t.
The birthday cake I went for was a Chocolate Cream…the cake had 3 layers of a light chiffon with buttercream frosting and did not taste overly sweet. They were able to place a Happy Birthday greeting on the spot and packed it in a beautiful box to...
