I grew up on the east coast. Our pizza was always New York style. Very competitive style of pizza. People pride themselves and identify on their favorite pizza place. My neighbors owned the top rated pizza resturant in our entire area. The kind of shop where kids went in after school and got a slice while they did their homework. This kind of pizza wasn't just food.l, It was a destination. Loosing that taste was one of the biggest food regrets of moving to the Midwest. In fact, so much so, that the first stop going back to visit is picking up a slice. I have spoke to my children lovingly about this taste for years. With this in mind, I was shocked when I haphazardly ordered pizza from Boardwalk. We just happen to be near by and the kids mentioned wanting " pizza". This might offend so many St. Louisins but the close to obsessive relationship an east coaster has with pizza is amazing. We have a twist between nostalgia amd druel when we think of it. The thought of what we call St. Louis style is alnost obscene. Truth be known we call it sause and cheese on a cracker. No offence meant. It just isnt home.
We were shocked how amazing Boardwalk Pizza was. For this East Coaster longing for a childhood taste of happiness, I was hugged again by my youth. This is the absolute place to go. The first week we went three times. For the last year we have gone at least once a week. And I am a wife and a mother that absolutly loves to cook. Go and eat their pizza. My kids grew up on St. Louis style and I never expected them to transition. It will transform your thoughts of what that experiance is. If I want my kids to get chores or school work done I tempt them with boardwalk. It works every time. The staff and owners are great. Each week we tweak our order and they genuinely seem to aprecheate it. An absolute gem we all...
Read more10/31/2020 update -- still great pizza. But backing off two stars from my original rating because they seem to have trouble estimating and/or staffing. I was told when I ordered for pickup that my order would be ready in 25 minutes. I got there only to be told it would be a couple minutes more. I stood there an additional 30 minutes (not once getting an update) watching others come in, get their order and leave. At least everyone in the parade had their masks on during this COVID-19 pandemic, so hopefully I didn't catch it. When they finally brought out my order and I confirmed that this is what I was supposed to get 30 minutes ago, I was told, "Well, it's Halloween." Um, yeah, just like last year it falls on October 31st. It's almost like it snuck up on them. They were certainly hustling from what I could see. But this experience was disappointing. There are other options, though this is a good place for that East Coast style pizza. Still, if this becomes a pattern then I'll settle for someone who can give me a more accurate time estimate.
Original review -- It's a small place, four tables inside, but four more outside under the large building overhang. Pizza is hand-tossed, even my 8" personal pizza. And I could fold it. And given the consistency of the dough, when I go back for an 18" pie it will be like a proper slice like you get in Central Jersey or NYC. Owner is friendly and personable. Great to talk to. Even though I didn't say it he knew I was looking for those slices you get in and around NYC. And he mentioned that if he had more traffic through his place he'd do the slices. But like I said, hand-tossed like NJ/NY pizza - and good quality/taste for the sauce, sausage, onions and black olives. This is the place. I finally found it, here in St. Louis. I can get a...
Read moreFinally got a chance to stop by and get some pizza and craft beer. The place has a few of their own beers and supplements the selection with guest taps from other major breweries. While the styles weren't necessarily my favorite, they were indeed well made and show brewing skill.
I tend to shy away from Kolsch, but this Mango Kolsch was the business. There was also a drypa, traditional IPA, and a berry beer of some sort.
The pizza was good and cooked just right. It seems to be more of a hand-tossed style and was better than anything you might find from a chain.
The true star of the show was the incredible service by the staff. My mother and I had both of my daughters with us and chose to sit in the brewery area. Since no one was in the area, the staff changed the tv, made cookies with them, and even experimented with some apple turnovers for them to try (it was one of their birthdays).
We stayed until shortly after close to wrap everything up and was never made to feel like we were being pushed out. By far this was the most refreshing customer service experience since I moved back to St. Louis.
I will continue to frequent the establishment and look forward to seeing the brewery expand its offerings.
I regret that I never actually got the staff's name who worked the bar that visit....
