Rainbow Cafe — Restaurant in Elmhurst

Hello All! I had to share this story with you because it truly touched my heart. With all the bad in the world it's difficult to see the good until the good graces you with it's ever loving presence. This morning I took 3 men that I serve at a living center for people with developmental disabilities to breakfast for their birthdays to Rainbow Café located in Elmhurst, il. The moment we walked in there, we were treated like family. We sat down and were approached by a man and his beautiful family. He told us he was given a gift certificate by a stranger, he said he wanted for us to have it and said “God Bless”. He shook the guys’ hands and left. I, for one was shocked by the warmth and kindness of this man and thanked him repeatedly. That has never happened to me before!

We were approached by the nicest waitress I have ever met in my life, Marie. She catered to us as if we were royalty! We continued to enjoy our coffee and chocolate chip pancakes, when Marie asked if we were celebrating anything special today. I told her we were out to celebrate the gentlemen’s birthdays. With this, she gathered the whole staff, cut up three pieces of cake, lit three candles and asked the whole restaurant to sing Happy Birthday to the three men. At this point I and a few customers were in tears! The guys had the biggest smiles on their faces!

Before we left, I asked the men to pick a family to give the gift certificate to (the same gift certificate we were given). We approached a beautiful family of 5 and handed them the gift certificate. We told them our story of how it was given to us and to have a great day and God Bless! They were very grateful and you can tell the guys loved giving back and putting a smile on their faces! When we were ready to go, I asked for the check. Marie then informed me that someone else had picked up the check and said “Happy Birthday and God Bless”. I was absolutely speechless and yes, more tears came! I couldn’t say thank you enough to everyone. We were told to come back to the restaurant whenever we wanted! When we were leaving, people were jumping out of their seats to hold open doors, help me carry the cake, and/or to shake the guys’ hands to wish them a Happy Birthday.

Never in my life have I seen such kindness and warmth from complete strangers. Somebody will have to slap the smile that is permanently on my face after this experience! I wanted to share this story with everyone because maybe today, tomorrow or a week from now, you’ll go out of your way to put a smile on a strangers face. I recently went and ordered a Greek chicken kabob sandwich. After trying different areas on the kabob, it was so salty that I was unable to eat it. The other people at my people tasted it and agreed.

When I was finally able to bring it to my server's attention, I was no longer hungry because of other food I had consumed and waiting for my server, who was extremely busy. My server offered to wrap my food, I told her it was inedible, and that I wouldn't eat it at home either. It was then that I was told that despite 90% of my dish being uneaten, no credit for food could not be applied to my bill whatsoever and that my only option was to order another meal of my choice.

Despite the pleasant ambience of the new restaurant, this policy left me very unsatisfied with the business itself. Even if I could have come back another time for a meal replacement, it would have been a reasonable solution. To me, it wasn't fair that my only option was to order a replacement meal at that time. After having appetizers, it seemed as waste.

Perhaps my food had just been over-salted during preparation but, I am not willing to try...

Outstanding customer service! Rainbow Café is highly recommended! Their staff is very nice, polite, and professional. They will greet you once you enter the place and even assist you until you find a seat. Their seating is plenty and big. Once you found a seat you already have on the table some of their silverware such as a spoon, fork, knife, and also glass. Very organized and well-maintained place. The managers are also ready to serve and assist some of their customers. The orders and food come quickly though the whole place is very busy. All of the staff is working so fast. I ordered some pancakes, a burrito, and also a drink. Before going out, I also ordered fries and crepes to take it home for my siblings. This place is phenomenal! If I could give them 10 stars, I would definitely give it to them! I really love this place! I can’t wait to visit again and explore more of the food on the menu. Would definitely go back here again but with my friends or family. So that they can also enjoy the place and try the amazing food of Rainbow Café. See you guys again soon! Please keep up the good...
