Recently visited here and had a nice, relaxing, interactive, and creatively invigorating experience. I visited on a Saturday around noon. Not sure if its just the time or day that I decided to come but there wasn't a ton of people which was nice as I felt I got to soak in the exhibitions a lot more. There is a fee for entry to the gallery and students/kids get a discounted rate. The staff at the front desk were super friendly and explained the layout and exhibitions very well. And while it's a smaller gallery, there does feel like a lot to explore. When I visited there was a group exhibition called Sustenance & Land. Some of the work was interactive like smelling different types of soil or flipping through a recipe book. Would be a great place for kids around ages 10 and up as you could more personally engage with the works. You could really feel and see the heart and work the artists were putting into these pieces, always a joy to visit a gallery. There was also a volunteer exhibition. Those pieces were actually on sale which was interesting and there was a community project to fold cranes which will be used in a project honoring an artist. I folded one... can't say that it's any good LOL. There's also a small little gift shop at the entrance and seating next to a wall of windows. The gallery is also next to a library and park so overall it's a place/area with such a peaceful ambiance. Overall had a great time here and would definitely visit again and...
Read moreCame here last Saturday with a relative to check out the Rafael Blanco murals exhibit. We were greeted by a friendly, helpful lady who took our money for admission and talked about what exhibits were on display.
This is not a large art museum, though the galleries they have are spacious and immaculately clean. The murals exhibit had displays in several galleries and was interesting, fun, and amazing. We certainly took the time to enjoy this big, colorful, exciting exhibit.
They have another exhibit which is a model of a modern old time house from years ago. Art and furniture were on display and this was certainly interesting and eye opening as it’s something I never knew about. This was a very cool exhibit to say the least.
There was another gallery that contained an exhibit of art work from the museum’s members. A lot of well made, fun, interesting and exciting pieces of art made in so many different ways. Some art was painting, some watercolors, some sketches, some tile. Some of these art pieces were for sale, though the costs were not at amateur prices.
Overall a great experience. Best to spend at least 30-45 minutes for the best experience and enjoy. I’ll return the next time I’m...
Read moreThis small museum has the most incredible and surprising exhibits. From modern icons like Picasso to local legends Hebru Brantley and Sentrock, they are truly thoughtful when curating unique exhibits that showcase Chicago’s art scene. The exhibits are typically a full concept with a unique perspective and story, such as the latest Picasso that showcased the progression of his rarely seen linocut work, or Sentrock which displayed interactive installations, and animated work that tied into the large scale paintings. I always look forward to seeing what original shows they lineup next. Plus, they often have limited edition prints, sculptures, and other merch that is exclusive to the museum. If you’re a fan of current and modern art, it’s definitely worth a trip even if you’re...
