If you haven’t tried Switchback Pizza yet, you gotta.
The hostess has an awesome personality and she was attentive, funny & friendly. Their busser was also friendly & professional.
We opted to sit outside and we ordered “small bites” and 2 pizzas along with dessert. Not much wait at all for the quality of food! (I’d much rather go here and wait than be at larger chain restaurant that is noisy and crowded.) I also much prefer a little bit of a wait for quality food & service. It’s worth it to me & nice that it wasn’t overly noisy or overstimulating.
The atmosphere is small town background noise, friendly chatter & very comfortable / down to earth.
It seems almost everything here is handmade & locally sourced so that’s extra appealing too.
We didn’t even try the drinks but they have a really creative and appealing drink menu that we’ll have to check out next time.
The small bites: Ciabatta bun (FRESH from the oven!) absolutely delicious. Meatballs - drenched in fresh tomato sauce fresh garlic and herbs & locally sourced meats.
The pizza: the dough is awesome - crunchy and fresh, with a really nice wood oven flavor. We got the prosciutto & margarita with mushrooms & onions added on. I love the fresh greens & the sauce doesn’t hit hard & acidic like some pizza sauces do.
The desserts: We tried all 3 of what they had: chocolate mousse, tahini, and the cheesecake. All of them were awesome. The mousse is light creamy & chocolatey. The tahini tastes like warm chocolate chips fresh out of the oven with a crunchy shell & there is ginger sugar on the whipped cream. The cheesecake has a different texture than regular cheesecake because it’s made with ricotta cheese. (Which I really liked!)
The portions were just right & I was able to fit in dessert. Everything seems carefully planned & curated towards a great dining experience & great personality & presence from staff. Will DEFINITELY be visiting again!
(My son pointed out how clever the logo is, it is a train mixed with a wood oven!)
I did not get pictures of the apps or pizza because I was so excited to eat them because they smelled so good!!
Thank you, Switchback for an awesome...
Read moreVisited 1/16/16 at 6pm. When we first arrived it was half full. Then it became packed really quick; there were people waiting to be seated. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. We can see everything is freshly made to order. Except of course the dessert. Since it was the height of the dinner rush we did wait a bit for our order (only one wait staff). But all staff was apologetic & thankful for our patience.
I ordered the Salad special: roasted sweet potatoes, red onions, barley, walnuts over baby arugula topped w/gorgonzola & balsamic reduction. I love this salad! Normally arugula I've eaten is quite bitter but not their's. It did need a bit more balsamic reduction.
Pizza special: baby arugula, bacon, beets, roasted onion topped w/clementine & pecorino. I really like the fact the bacon wasn't salty. I added sausage & fresh chopped garlic. It was well balanced, except it needed a little more sauce. The crust was surprisingly delicious too. Would go great with olive oil & herbs dip!
Side note: my son added pepperoni to his Happy Pig pizza. He loved his pizza but didn't like the pepperoni as it wasn't what he is normally use to. He also thought the crust tasted great!
Ricotta Cheese Cake - taste dry & flaky (very different from NY cheese cake). It's said if you don't like NY cheese cake then you'll most likely like this. I personally love NY cheese cake so it wasn't to my personal likings.
*special Chocolate Mousse - very smooth and different; it's on the dark side (taste like 70% dark). Again, very different than what you would get anywhere else.
Overall: This is NOT your typical pizzeria! Don't have an expectation for such as you'll be sadly disappointed. But if you're looking for a gourmet pizzeria who serves fresh pizza made with fresh ingredients which were bought from local farms then DEFINITELY COME!
At the very least give it a try without...
Read moreWe had a very nice time here tonight! They were absolutely packed and for great reason. The food was INCREDIBLE. We are Italian and do not take our meatballs and sauce lightly. These meatballs were excellently seasoned and the ciabatta roll that came with it was just perfect. We ordered a flight of ciders which were all pleasant. We also ordered a flight of pizzas which wasn't an option but we did it anyway. We got a Happy Pig, a Blue Moon and a Three Fun Guys. All 3 pies were amazing. The blue moon, however, was absolutely to die for. We will be returning and it will be for that pie specifically. You can tell they take their ingredients seriously. The dough was some of the best I've had in the area if not the best. It was cooked well. So simple yet so flavorful. All of this being said I do have one take away from the night. The woman who was helping us seemed to be doing quite literally everything on the floor. Perhaps it was just a case of a call out or untimely short staffing. She seated us, brought our table settings, took our order, cleared our plates, delivered our food and was doing this for each of the 10-15 tables seemingly alone. She was doing a great job and was pleasant throughout but you could tell she had her hands full and I felt awful. It took about 40 mins to get our app and another 15-20 to get the pizzas. We were there around an hour and a half total. We ended up not ordering a 2nd flight like we planned as it was taking a while to get things and an obnoxious table had filed in next to us. Took the remaining pizza home and it was still great out of the air fryer. To summarize: If you're willing to wait for greatness then you absolutely must come here. Worth every minute and every penny spent. We will...
