Poki Poki - Encinitas — Restaurant in Encinitas

I was in the area running some errands. Before heading back home, I offered to get lunch for me, my dad, and sister. For some reason I’ve been craving Poki and when I saw this place, I was like oh that is what I am going to get for lunch. I called to place my order, which was 3 bowls with the whole shibang. It was the my first time ordering from here, so I thought why not go all out. When I was ready to go pick up, I didn’t realize the one I called to place an order for was not the location I was thinking I was picking up from. I did not realize this mistake until the workers at the location I was at told me I called the other location. I was appalled. I was driving almost in circles trying to find this location. I had to park and call. Luckily, the location I called the worker was nice and understanding as I wasn’t the first person whose gotten confused with the locations. Despite that mix up, the food was delicious. I realized I forgot to ask for extra sauce as I was so frazzled about getting lost. However, getting the whole shibang there was enough flavor that extra sauce was not necessary if you didn’t have any. Additionally, the one bowl portion size was very filling. I had leftovers that was eaten over 2 days, and it was still good.

This place is awesome because they load it up. I got the 4 choice protein, Large, for 16 dollars and was amazed at their portions. Usually, a large is a place's highest option but Poki Poki had a larger option. Everything can be added without a fee except for the avocado. The place is nice too, it's clean and if you go at the right time, quiet. On this day, they had a movie playing to which I enjoyed half my plate. There was so much food that I'd have to finish it later in the day-yet it still felt like a full sized meal each time. The flavors are not the boldest when compared to other places but having almost every side gave it a good variety in taste. I wasn't particularly impressed like others. It is a nice store and they have quality items and a large selection but it's a bit overpriced probably because it's located in the heart of Encinitas. The sushi bar is very popular among the locals and it can be a decent deal or very expensive depending on how and what you fill your bowl with because you're paying by weight. That was pre-covid so I'm not sure what it's like at this moment but based on other stores in the area that have returned to serve yourself salad bars it should be back open.
