Silvia's is a hidden gem and I am so glad that we found it! We walked in on a Saturday night around 7pm and were a little concerned that there were no customers in the restaurant. We were seated and given the specials and recommendations. Those concerns started to disappear when the home made bread came out, still warm and tasted so go. We chose the Polish Holiday Dinner and the Goulash that had lamb, chicken and beef. The food was exceptional to say the least. The different spices in the Goulash were perfect and all three meats were so tender and had soaked up all of those flavors from the sauce. It was definitely an old school recipe that rivals grandma's cooking. The Polish Holiday Dinner was also extremely flavorful, from the stuffed cabbage to the kielbasa and the pierogies. The portions were double of any restaurant that I have been to so to go containers were a must. We had a piece of German Chocolate cake which was made with what appeared to be a layer or ricotta cheese. It was like biting into a piece of heaven, so light and creamy. I was truly surprised when the bill came and it was much lower that I expected for all that food. I can't wait to go back again and try something new. Thank...
Read moreWe were so lucky to happen upon this gem of a restaurant! On our way further upstate, we saw this sweet little restaurant was open and served salads, so we took a chance. We're so glad we did!
The salad was so fresh and nutritious, and the balsamic dressing was on point. A nice variety of fresh homemade bread was served warm. Silvia herself presented us with an unbelievable Ukrainian cabbage soup. I’d include a photo, but it was gone before I could take one. The Polish Falcon Melt was the best kielbasa I’ve ever had (very light and sweet)…also on fresh homemade bread. The pirogues (we had cabbage and cheese) were perfectly seasoned and so yummy. We tried the homemade lemonade and it was so sweet and delicious.
Everything is fresh and it’s amazingly light for such filling food. The portions are generous, so we got to enjoy the leftovers even more later in the day.
Highly recommend this sweet little place, like eating in the kitchen of your favorite aunt. The prices are fair and there appears to be space for special occasions, so check that out as well. Silvia was an attentive hostess and really made us feel at home. Totally worth a special trip—we’ll be back for sure....
Read moreKnow what to expect before you go! Silvia, a native Romanian, is the grandmother that welcomes you to her home and loves to watch you eat her food. She's also the grandmother that doesn't much care for your opinion on her home: you came over here for a good meal, not to comment on how long she's taking to cook it!
Expect the best European food you've ever tasted. Expect to leave FULL! At first glance, her prices appear a bit high but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Do not expect Grandma's house to have the appearance of a five star restaurant. Plenty of restaurants put lots of effort into the facade around the food. Silvia puts 100% of her effort into what matters most: the incredible cuisine you'll be eating throughout the night.
Lastly, if its your first time, tell her (or the waiter, they seem to tag team serving the table) so that she can explain how the menu goes. We were confused when a huge bowl of soup, a plate of pastries and a salad arrived at our table without asking for them. It was literally enough food for a full meal for my wife and me and we hadn't even ordered any food yet. That's just what to expect, though, when you're eating at...
