Let me start by saying this is a very nice establishment with beautiful views. Every staff member we encountered was helpful, funny, easy to talk to. We had 6:30 reservation and we were seated promptly. We put in our drink orders and artichoke spinach appetizer and it took a while but we got our drinks. Tried to put in our food order but our server said she'd be right back. She returned in a while with the appetizer and took our orders. Beware, the spinach artichoke dip has bacon in it. I liked it but one of our guests, ironically the one who ordered it, does not. It took a long time for us to get our food. Our server came by to bring us more drinks and offer us fresh bread (after well over an hour of being there). It was about 15 minutes later we got our bread. The food came out a bit later -my meal said nothing about pasta on the menu (chicken, sausage, peppers, onions, tomatoes) and it was a pasta dish. I even asked if the entrees came with a side and our server specifically said whatever is listed on the menu is what it comes with and that is all. It took an extremely long time for the food to come out so I told them to forget it if they could just take the meal off of the bill. But they came back about 10 minutes later with food. It did have a chili pepper next to it on the menu indicating it was spicy. It tasted like banana pepper juice was poured over the food... Not in a bad way. Just an overpowering flavor. One of our guests ordered from the prix fixe menu (salad, entree, ice cream) So I sat with her so she could get her ice cream while the other two from our party went across the street as planned to watch the sunset. It took a really long time for her ice cream to arrive. We were out of there by 9:00 p.m. there is a parking lot but since we were going to walk across the street and watch the sunset after dinner, I paid to park in the lot across the street. It took so long I had to extend my parking. The big question I always ask somebody when they go to a restaurant is would they go back. This is a big maybe. The people were delightful, the drinks were tasty, and the view is awesome. I just took 2 and 1/2 hours to get our basic meals and one out of four was wrong, though they did try to...
Read moreWe had a reservation as we chose this place to celebrate my birthday. We arrived, went upstairs and were taken to our table by the window. The view upstairs was great. We could see the beach and the gulf. The downside was the fact that the windows were kind of dusty and dirty. After that, we had been sitting at the table for about 15–20 minutes without a server or anyone at all. The restaurant was not packed, so I am not sure why there was a problem. The hostess was passing by us, so my boyfriend asked her why we had no service provided and asked her if she could get somebody. She said that the second floor was more formal, so there was a longer wait. I am not sure what she meant by that because nobody was wearing any special attire, but mostly shorts, and everybody else was getting served except us. I could see if the place was packed, or we had no reservation, but that was not the case. Taking into account the situation, she could just apologize and get us a server instead of being nasty and talking nonsense. Finally, the server showed up. His name was Hunter. He was very nice and professional the whole time. From what he said, we understood that he wasn’t our server, but he did the right thing for us (brought us water and took our order). The drinks were good. Regarding the food, I had clam chowder and scallops with risotto. Both were OK. My boyfriend had a lobster with steak and mashed potatoes. The lobster was good, but really small. The steak was overcooked. The only vegetable option that was available with a lobster and a steak was asparagus, which he never liked, so he declined getting any vegetables. We did not get any dessert. The total bill was almost 200 dollars, which is kind of pricy for this area, but I definitely had better dinners for that kind of money. All in all, we will not come back to this place. The hostess was rude, the original server never showed up and the quality of food was not good enough for the prices they charged. Hunter and the view were the only things that really lightened up...
Read moreWe have been dining at the Waverly for years. We generally have had a very good experience and are willing to overlook the missteps because the views, particularly at sunset, are wonderful. However, our last three or four dining experiences have been just terrible. I don't like to write reviews as most businesses are stressed today with staffing challenges but too many times to not express my disappointment. Had dinner last evening with my wife; arrived at 6:30; restaurant was quiet; had a "bar crowd" for trivia but generally a slow evening. It was 20 minutes from being seated before getting menu's and water and another 10 minutes before the server arrived to take a drink order and 12 more before the drink arrived (probably should have walked out after 30 minutes of inattentiveness...). The only saving grace was that it was a wonderful afternoon to view the beach. My wife ordered the french dip sandwich which was uninspiring but the sweet potato fries were very good. I ordered a fish sandwich and the fish represented a third of the bun in size; I thought maybe the fish fell out of the sandwich during delivery! To make matters worse, I asked for some additional condiment (mayo) and found it on the bill at $.50 on top of the $18 plate. I am not complaining about the price of the meal as we find their prices fair for the view but the petty charge added; awful! The fish was overcooked and dry which is unusual for a white fish and had a strong fishy smell and taste; realized later after being sick that maybe it shouldn't have been served. That was the "icing on the cake" and prompted me to write this review. Sad day for us as we have frequented this establishment for years when in town but don't expect we will return under the...
