I thought this was the same as palace station oyster bar but I should've known when the name was big sur. I'll still try it out. First thing I noticed was it was way bigger. The hostess was very nice. We put our name down and walked around. When they called us we came back and a party came before us and we let them go because we were already checked in and told them we were otw back. After they seated the party they told us, they gave our table to them because they were there first. What?! It was literally them and us. We walked 1 min to you from when you called and waited 1 min for you to walk to the front and you gave away our table bc we were being nice. That's WILD. Another lady came and helped she said she is usually at another restaurant she was way more accommodating. We ordered a side of fries, very basic. Had to add salt for any flavor. Got the clam chowder. The giant cracker in it was not good. The chowder itself was thicccck. Thicker than I like for mine. The pan roast was not spicy nor did they ask if we wanted spice. It was OK not even close to PS. We did the lobster grilled cheese. It was overly buttery where it was greasy to the touch. The lobster roll had too much going on for me. The chips were good. Overall, meh. There are...
Read moreWe read so many reviews and originally wanted to check out Palace Station but heard it’ll be at least an hour wait no matter what time you go. So we settled for South Point for the half off oysters.
My heart was set on bouillabaisse and pan roast but my stomach could only handle something small. Luckily they offer half price oysters and clams and a few small items from 11am-4pm under $15.
We started off with half a dozen clams and oysters. It was our first time eating raw clams and my fiancé first time eating raw oysters!
It was the blue point oysters which is small sweet with a salty finish. I will need for him to have a do over because I don’t think this oyster should be the one to pop your virgin taste bud. It needs to be plump, sweet and creamy.
The clams are known to be a bit sweeter but I prefer oysters. We were given horse radish and cocktail sauce. I prefer mignonette sauce.
We shared the pacific coast shrimp rice bowl which is basically tomato sauce over brown rice with shrimp. Had a bit of kick due to the wasabi.
It’s a great place to squeeze in something small and inexpensive and take advantage of the half off oysters and clams. Other than that, there’s nothing to...
Read moreVery bad experience last night for dinner. Our server was very rude and loud and was threatening. We didn't wanna make a scene and make it a big deal since we had kids with us. Basically the issue was they don't allow comps to be used when the person who has the comps is not there the ENTIRE time of dining. She happened to need to go to the bathroom while we were waiting for the food. The entire time she wasn't there, the server came up to our table at least 3 or 4 times threatening us that if she's not coming back they will charge us the bill and not use the comps. Each time he gets louder and louder where everyone was looking at our table. We ate fast and just had the food to-go because we couldn't take it anymore. We had come to this restaurant so many times, with and without comps because we liked the food. But this event was too bad that I told my family not to go back there. I was trying to keep calm but was very tempted to talk back at this server the way he was with us. We chose to just leave because of the kids. All other times were good service, this night was an exemption and that server was for sure not made for that kind of job. Very rude...
