Our group of seven ate here on the evening of August 5, 2018, and what an awkward and nauseating experience it was. Two of the three adults ordered the Chicken Schnitzel, and I ordered the Porterhouse done medium. The porterhouse arrived well done, but for the sake of good times and not wanting to cause a fuss, I initially let it go. But both the other adults cut into their chicken, looked at each other, and then sought my opinion because I've been a restaurant cook and a home cook for 30 years. It was pink. Now, we know that colour is not a reliable indicator of doneness, so I said to them, "It's probably safe, but I would cook it two or three minutes longer to remove any doubt". So they summoned the waitress and indicated the problem. Since their meals were going back, I showed the waitress that the steak was burnt. She apologized, correctly, and took our meals back. Meantime, the young lad at the table was eating his Mac and Cheese, and as the waiter topped up the boy's lemonade, he spilt 1/4 cup of lemonade directly into his meal. The waiter said, "Oops" and walked away. I noted also that the waiter topped up my Coke by pouring from a height (which is bad technique not only because of the danger of spilling, but because it unnecessarily releases fizz from the liquid). We got the waiter's attention and when he returned to our table and we reviewed what had happened, he mumbled incoherently. We all leaned in, struggling to understand what he was saying, but it was incomprehensible. After at least 90 seconds of agonizing back and forth, we established that the boy would receive chicken strips instead. Then my steak and the chicken arrived. To our great dismay, the chicken was pink again and so we summoned the waitress, who herself noted the unappetizing colour, returned with the general manager. She was abrupt, unhelpful, and, as it turned out, she lied to our faces. "The chicken is cooked well done," she announced. "The pink colour is from the marinade", she finished. I know my recipes, and so I asked, "What is the marinade?". She answered that we wouldn't have to pay for the chicken meals, and left. My steak was of low quality, and I finished about half of it. My daughter, cheeky thing, asked the waitress to go ask the cooks what the marinade was. The waitress returned and announced, "olive oil, rosemary, salt, and pepper". And so the manager lied. I wanted to say, "I'm coming back into that kitchen and I want every cook to gather round while I teach them all how to cook this dish". What an embarrassing and awkward encounter. Never again. If the management replies to this review, I regret that I won't be...
Read moreThe food here is great. I would specifically like to talk about the service I received recently.
I went to Coronado Cafe for lunch on Saturday, 10/24, at about 1pm. I had 2 $40 off coupons that I was planning on using. I was with my parents for a total of 3 of us. We ordered our food and it came in a timely manner. When we were almost done with our food, we decided to order a little more food bc we wanted something different and to be able to use all the comps available on my coupon, figuring we could just take home what we didn’t finish. Our server (Ana) came out and told us that her supervisor wasn’t going to allow us to order more food bc we had already ordered 3 entrees. I told her that we do this all the time and it’s never been an issue before. She apologized and went to the back. Her supervisor (Cecelia) then came out and asked if we were using a comp or a coupon. I told her I had a coupon. She said that since we had already ordered 3 entrees, we would only be able to or an appetizer or dessert. That if they brought out the extra food we ordered, we’d have to eat it there since they don’t do take out. So I asked if they were going to sit there and watch us eat the food. She said no but they want to make sure that we weren’t ordering take out. I told her that we weren’t full yet and I have comps available and we wanted more food. She said ok and went to the back. I was under the impression that she went to put the order in for the additional food we ordered. She came out five minutes later and said she called her manager and her manager said we couldn’t order more food on the coupons bc we had already ordered 3 entrees. I was astounded. As a player that has been coming to not only South Point, but Coronado Cafe as well, since the night it opened, I was shocked. I’m in no way a huge player but I’ve lost quite a bit not only this year at South Point, but since they’ve opened. I was there the night it opened when it was still South Coast. I earned the comp coupons based on my loss and now I’m being told I can’t order more than 1 entree??? I don’t understand how my business would be turned away (comp or paid), especially during these hard times. If someone could please reply to me regarding this, I would really appreciate it. As of now, I will no longer be dining at Coronado Cafe and will not be recommending it to all of my family when they come in to visit from California and...
Read moreI have to give credit to the chefs and to the servers as well. I have celiac disease therefore I cannot have any Gluten which comes from wheat, barly and rye. Everyone from our servers to the chefs were so very careful to not only prepare my meals separately in the kitchen but to serve them separately and covered as well. Breakfast is served all day until close which makes it nice to not have to go to a buffet so early in the morning. We ate breakfast for dinner twice which was excellant! There are such large portions served that it is nearly impossible to finish everything on the plate. We had ham steak, 2 eggs, hash browns and choice of toast, which included gluten free toast, sourdough, white, wheat, or rye. The cost was under $10 to $13.00 per person. The second time I had steak and 2 eggs, served piping hot with hash browns, The cost was close to $19. Mom had 2 egg and hasbrowns served with 5 strips of bacon for approx $10.45. My husband Ray, had the $18.99 Prime Rib special for a low $18.99. Our servers were excellant both times, remembering I had the Gluten Free orders and a shellfish allergy. They were on the ball and quick with service regardless of the fact that the restaurant was completely full, having a line of customers just waiting to be seated. If you're really a night owl, from 12:00 a.m to 6:00 a.m, the same steak and egg breakfast is a low $6.95 per person. There is also a huge burger special for $4.95. Breakfast is also $3.99. I'd highly recommend Coronado Cafe to everyone, especially those of you who have special dietary needs. So far, I've turned into a pumpkin "before" midnight therefore we've yet to take advantage of the Midnight Specials at Coranado. Lol. It is worth every penny for both the food and excellant service! You're also saving a lot of money by not eating at the buffet every day. Ching-ching! Be sure to tip your wait staff! My philosophy is that if you can't afford a decent tip, you can't afford to go out to eat. Be waited on while catering to your every need and then cleaning up after us, your wait staff deserves to be compensated for a...
