For months I have been looking for an authentic Greek restaurant in the Las Vegas area. From what I heard, most of the Greek establishments are suffering from small menu selections and a lack of authentic Greek flavor you expect. Until I found Meraki! This past Saturday a few of us decided to take a small trip to the Blue Diamond location for dinner. We drove up to the restaurant and noticed how large and open the establishment was. A beautifully lit patio was available when weather permitted. Vegas summers can be a bit harsh but no worries a comfortable indoor dining area with a large private banquet room are available. Upon entering there is a massive video menu system with large selection of classic Greek items available. From sandwiches to combination plates, appetizers to desserts, the prices listed seemed very reasonable. As I was ordering I could smell the Greek aromas coming from the grill right next to the ordering counter. One of the items I was very excited about on the menu was the Saganaki or Greek Flaming Goat Cheese. This is one of my favorite appetizers. Make sure to order extra lemon wedges to squeeze which really brings out the cheese flavor. Since it was my first visit to Meraki, I decided to order a few items. I ordered the Meraki sandwich (chicken) combo with Greek salad and a drink, an order of hummus (appetizer portion) and the Saganaki. With tax and tip it came to around $40. We got our drinks and sat down at a table. Within a few minutes our orders were staring to arrive. The appetizers came out first and I was surprised with the portions. The Saganaki was a big round portion that was fried to a golden brown. Sorry to say they can't do the whole show with lighting the cheese on fire at table side due to laws that forbid that. The hummus was an ample portion that 2 people could gladly share. Each of the appetizers came with fresh warm pita bread. As we enjoyed the delicious appetizers, our sandwiches arrived! The Meraki chicken sandwich looked fresh and tasty. A large fluffy pita wrapped up with chicken souvlaki, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, feta cheese, and Taziki sauce. A small Greek salad with lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, Greek olives, a delicious but light Greek dressing and feta cheese was served. My first bite of the sandwich almost sent chills of happiness through my body. The chicken was classic souvlaki flavor with the taziki yogurt and cucumber sauce adding that sour note. I added a small amount of hummus and Saganaki to my sandwich which amped up the flavor. Everything tasted fresh and clean. You could tell a lot of thought and love was given to create the menu. When I finished my meal I went up to the counter to convey how much I liked the food. The chef came out and thanked me for experiencing Meraki and hoped i would return. In a heartbeat I said,"Yes!" As I was departing with my tummy full, I was presented a free piece of Greek citrus cake and another thank you from the staff! Everyone who worked there took pride in the atmosphere and the food that was made. Thank you once again to the staff and management of Meraki for the great Greek...
Read moreI can usually take or leave Greek food. I don't love it but I don't hate it. I really like other Mediterranean food, particularly Shawarma but I couldn't name you a single Greek restaurant that I've ever been overly enthusiastic about until now.
There's an old joke about Asian restaurants in metropolitan areas having distinct cuisines for each country vs single Asian restaurants in small towns and rural areas having one terrible restaurants that has a bit of everything and does it all poorly. The joke name for those restaurants is "The Diarrhea Dragon". I'm convinced I've been getting the Mediterranean version of this until now. Some good friends recommended it to me and then some other good friends invited me to come there for a dinner meet-up with a bunch of guys. we ordered a bunch of dishes and it turned out to not only be the best Greek food I'd ever had but something I would go out my way for on a regular basis.
Out of habit, I tried to order Shawarma and they told me that they only did Greek food. I wasn't sure how to take this since I didn't love Greek food but I ordered some soup and a chicken gyro. My friends ordered a bunch of stuff for the table to try and everything i ate was mind-blowingly good. My soup and gyro were good enough to eat again and again. The food was fresh, well prepared and beautifully presented. The service was friendly and the restaurant had a great ambiance. The cherry on the top was that they had one of those drink machines that has like a hundred options. Since this is less than two miles from my house, I'll...
Read moreMood- Hangry
With this new work schedule I have now, I will admit my food intake is getting adjusted to the new norm in my life. So sometimes I take a little while before I can get to the substance. Then the hangry version of myself comes out. Hey I own who I am. JS. However Greek Food is always acceptable when this happens.
Upon entering was quickly greeted and asked if there were questions re ; the menu. There were none as I grew up eating this food basically my whole life. You order at the front counter, pay, find seating, and the food is brought out to you.
Opted for the Steak Kalamakia - with Feta Fries, and the Gyro Platter. Wow the portions are intense. It def takes up the whole plate/platter. It comes with your choice of side some at an additional cost. But everything was cooked to perfection.
Interior is huge. There are several seating arrangements. There are televisions playing as well. I got the chance to watch the game. Music was playing in the background as well. Everything was very clean. One thing I thought that was cool, there was an electric plug at the booth I was sitting at.
Would most def recommend - pricing was beyond reasonable for the portions and quality of the food. My table was checked on and the customer service was just fabulous. I love great...
