Clinchfield Sub Station — Restaurant in Erwin

Working with TDOT after the recent flooding, I had spent a good amount of time in the Erwin area and I’m always looking for a good, local diner for some grub. The Erwin Fire Chief recommended this place, and the recommendation was SPOT on!! Great food, great people, and fantastic overall experience! I will definitely eat here again, SOON!! 🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟

FOOD: I was torn between a burger 🍔 (my FAV) and the highly recommended Philly Cheese-Steak, but the gal behind the counter said burger, so I obliged! 😎 It was great, and cooked to perfection. 😋😋 Seemed to be a non-frozen patty, hand patted and thick, maybe the perfect burger size. Tomatoes were super fresh and tasted of the Grainger Co. variety and I requested “burnt” bacon and they provided crispy bacon 🥓(which is so hard to get for some reason 🤷🏻‍♂️.) Bun seemed to be a potato bun, and SUPER fresh. 🥯Fries were similar to “Checkers” fries with a bit of seasoning that was not my favorite, but did not detract from anything. 🍟 Everything was cooked to perfection and served hot and timely with generous proportions. They had fountain drinks (Coke products) 🥤as well as bottled drinks.

ATMOSPHERE: It’s a small diner with seating for around 15 people. A very clean restaurant with a SUPER friendly staff. (As I was coming in, a young couple was leaving and I mentioned it was my first time there, they said “It’s great food!” I agree 100%.)

Not long after moving to beautiful NE TN, a neighbor recommended we try Clinchfield Sub Station in Erwin.  I was quite surprised to discover they are closed on weekends.  Growing up in the restaurant industry, I was mystified how any food establishment could survive without the weekend crowds.  Well, when we finally had a weekday open, we decided to pop in and find out.

Turns out, the recipe for Clinchfield’s wild success is quite simply, they put their money where your mouth is…in the form of the freshest ingredients and hefty portions for a reasonable price! And do not get me started on their melt-in-your-mouth homemade bread - the framework for their deli-licious creations!

This family owned and operated one-off has thrived by word of mouth recommendations from loyal customers with WJHL News Channel 11’s viewers voting Clinchfield Sub Station the Tri-Cities Best Deli in 2023.

So, fire up your appetite and your GPS…because Clinchfields is a hot pick, and this is one Sub Station you won’t...

This is my favorite place ever. I recommend it to all the new folks in the area & take all of my out of town friends & family here. The Millers are incredible people! From book recommendations & sharing photography from Jacob, to Ashley’s fun quirky puns of the day & stories about her cats, to Susan checking in on me every time I come in like the cousin at thanksgiving you are so excited to talk to, to Roger silently making burgers in the back there’s a friend here at Clinchfield Sub Station. They value you coming in and genuinely care for everyone in this little town. Without this restaurant full of good vibes and energy this town would suck a bit. The queso fries are genius and make me happy! The California chicken bacon ranch is sooooo good! But I’m torn between order that or the rodeo burger! Seriously what’s not to love here.
