If you're just looking for standard taqueria fare, this place is not for you. They offer an interesting variety of super-tasty tacos and burritos filled with "guisados", which are slow-cooked dishes featuring meat and/or vegetables in a sauce. The blue corn and flour tortillas are house-made and have great flavor and a fresh texture. There are several guisados on the menu including a few vegetarian versions, plus specials.
I tried the Turkey Mole, Chorizo & Nopales, and Steak Ranchera tacos (only served in groups of three) which were all fantastic! Other luscious looking options were Yellowtail Veracruzano, Shrimp Poblano, Smoked Marlin, Chicarrone Ranchero, Beef Lengua Amarillo, and Short Rib Birria, plus rice and beans. I didn't catch the three veggies options.
The burritos are Norteno-style (Northern Mexico), which is a streamlined burrito focused on excellent tortilla quality and just a few simple, flavor-rich fillings.
There are a couple of tiny cups of unique salsas available, but they're not really needed. The only thing missing for me was fresh chips and salsa. It's mainly a take-out place, with three small tables inside and two outside, and I think they do catering. Hopefully they'll open a...
Read moreIf I could give them 10 stars, I would. Mesa Agrícola is one of those rare places where everything aligns: ingredient integrity, execution, atmosphere, value, and heart. From the first bite of that perfectly made tortilla to the last sip of a fresh agua fresca (or whatever you pair it with), you feel like you’re part of something genuine.
I had the taco (yes, plural—you’ll want more than one) with a slow-cooked guisado filling that made the tortilla sing. The flavors were deep but not heavy, vibrant but familiar. You’ll catch yourself closing your eyes and nodding slowly because you just know: this is how tacos should be.
And beyond the food? The place feels like it’s powered by passion — from the chef’s background in Baja California to the local farming ethos. It’s not made for hype, it’s made for taste. The service was warm, unhurried, and sincere; the ambiance relaxed but elevated.
If you’re in Escondido (or willing to make the drive from San Diego) and you want a taco experience that will linger in your memory, this is it. Go hungry. Leave thrilled. I can’t wait to go back, and...
Read moreThis place has amazing food! We are talking fresh, authentic, traditional cuisine. One thing I must note, is the menu does change daily, and some options may be unavailable . With that said, you may think of this as a bonus, or a setback. But considering the amazing options, it was good with me.
The food was delicious, I found the prices fair considering the quality being served.
I have to point out the unique drink options. They are awesome! The café de olla was the best I've ever had. It wasn't drowned in sugar, it was cold brewed, and outstanding, as every flavor hit the palate.
The only draw back from this amazing restaurant is the seating. Its very limited . Also parking is limited, but there is additional spots behind the building .
Still a 5 star experience! Even the hot sauce was on point!
I tried the Chipotle burrito, lamb barbacoa, and a mushroom & cactus burrito. All were smackin.
My wife has the chicken Chipotle taco, and a mushroom &...
