Chick N Elly's — Restaurant in Eureka

I met my friend Jeff for breakfast there this morning. I have been searching for a local breakfast place for awhile that is convenient for both of us to meet, and this restaurant had come highly recommended by friends. I was not disappointed.

From the outside I was not sure what to think, as its set in old town Eureka, and upon walking in I was not disappointed. From the locals finishing their breakfast and joking with staff and the owner, to the owner who was preparing the food. The atmosphere is exactly what I had hoped for in a local breakfast spot.

The food was great too. The owner commented that if it was no the best omelette i had had, it was free. And well, it wasn't free. The Western Omelette was that good. I am a fan of traditional pan-fried potatoes over hash browns, so I ordered the home fries. They were good, but after seeing Jeff's chicken fried steak and eggs with hash browns come out......I think i will try the hash browns next time (they looked good).

The food quality was very poor. The coffee tasted off and had grounds in it. There was a fly in the sugar. The eggs were not seasoned. The hash browns were not crispy. I got chicken fried chicken with gravy, and while the chicken was hot, it seems like a frozen and refried chicken fillet, and the gravy was not good quality (it seemed to be from a packet). The service was good, the staff was attentive, and the food came out fast, which is what rescues this review from being 1-star. Drive by nearly every day and decided to give this place a try. Uncomfortably small and standing there waiting for a table is quite awkward. Got a table pretty quickly and sat down to order. The portion sizes are descent. I ordered a veggie omelet and it was pretty bland. Fresh veggies have great flavor. I was thinking these veggies were frozen. My husband ordered the southwest omelet and he enjoyed it. Our daughter ordered the bacon egg bagel. She said it was okay. All in all, it was not our favorite place.
