La Casa Mexican Bar and Grill — Restaurant in Eustis

Myself and a group of friends visited La Casa about month ago on a Saturday night with the hopes of finding a great Mexican restaurant in Southern Lake County.

The atmosphere of the restaurant itself was nice. Unfortunately, the service was unsatisfactory.

When we first arrived, we were one of only four tables that were seated (kind of on the low amount for 7:00 on a Saturday night). Our server came to the table to take our food and drink order. Though he was bilingual, he had very little knowledge about the menu when he was taking our order (there were four of us total).

Once our order was placed, another five tables were seated in our vicinity. About 45 minutes after we placed our order, the only items that had arrived at our table were our drinks and chips. Meanwhile, the tables that were seated after us had begun to receive our entrees.

When our server came back to check on us, we mentioned that we had been waiting for 45 minutes for our orders and that others around us had begun getting their food before us. The server apologized and said he would have the kitchen expedite our food.

About ten minutes later, we received our order. However, two of the entrees that arrived came out with the wrong sides, as well as with toppings within the tacos that we specifically requested were withheld. The server managed to fix both of these mistakes about 5 minutes later.

At the end of the evening the manager came to our table to apologize for the delay and mixup, as apparently the restaurant was understaffed both in the front and back of the house. Apparently the young gentleman who was our server that evening normally works as a busser and it was his first evening working as a server, so he was still learning the ropes of the job. The manager gave us a 25% discount off our total bill and requested that we give the restaurant another chance in the near future.

Overall the food itself was good, but the customer service was sub-par. Though I was tempted to give La Casa a lower rating, I decided to give them 3 stars because of their good food and the humility they showed when admitting to their mistakes, which is a rarity in the customer service industry these days. At some point we will visit La Casa Mexican Bar again. Hopefully on our next trip I will be able to update this review with more...

PLEASE CHECK YOUR BILL. Food was tasty but lukewarm. Been here several times. The service today was a little off this time.

Was surprised to have a service charge added to the final bill. This is something brand new for I never saw this on the bill and we were there within the last month.

When asked I was told it is the tip which was calculated at about 18%. Imagine those who do not look over their check and pay this service charge AND leave a tip.

I stated there isn't anything listed or posted that there will be an additional service charge fee to be added to the bill. Even though it was taken off without any hassle, it did not sit right with me.

Furthermore, the servers didn't bother to say thank you when he came back with the adjusted bill nor as we passed them when we left as the were both standing by the register. The place was practically empty. I was expecting some acknowledgement especially when I clearly stated to both of them Thank You when passing. I was literately within 2 feet of them. Think he wasn't too happy about removing the service. A simple thank you goes a long way.

I try to support small businesses but again this didn't sit right with me. Don't think we will...

Stop giving 4-5 star reviews and then saying everything was wrong. Long waiting is the norm here, and was before covid. The chips are brought in single serving sizes for the table to share and good luck getting more. The food finally came- I asked for charro beans several times during ordering and said please not the smashed ones because he didn't seem to be listening/understanding, but he shook his head like he did. He of course brought refried and when I said something, he said they don't have charro and he didn't understand. If we're not understanding each other, please go get help. If you don't understand my order, ask again. Neither of us finished our food because it just isn't tasty. Still fresh, not bland, just off. The Ranchero sauce is kind of tastes like they added a hot sauce or too much vinegar. Idk. Super disappointed with the whole thing. Won't be giving another chance. The young man was extremely nice, nothing against him personally. Just didn't understand me...
