new updates April 6th 2023: New owner and new management. Restaurant just reopened after long hiatus. Everybody was super friendly and welcoming. The vibe is really good and I love all the new decor. Booths were comfy. Restaurant atmosphere was great. They do have outdoor dining along the side but we chose to eat inside. Pizza was awesome and we had the best waiter. His name was Cole. Several restaurant staff and management stop by a few times to check on us and see that everything was going well. So glad they're open again. This used to be one of our regular restaurants and we're so excited that it's back. I wish the new owners well.
Original: Great pizza, funky decor, periodic entertainment. Mixed drinks (signature style) are a bit pricey. UPDATE: Ok, today 5-20-21 I have to take off a star (sorry). Still love this place and the server and service were excellent. Food tasted great. But the reason is two-fold. One, is that the toppings on the pizza were meager and mainly in the mid section of the pizza leaving the outer 1/2 of the circumference plain with a very wide brim of dough. It was as if there was only one topping total. Two, is non-food related. Tried to use the restroom and luckily checked for TP before I used the toilet. None. Checked the 2nd half of the holder and that side was none. Moved to the next stall and none on either half either. Decided to wait until I got home as it wasn't imperative that I use the facility and didn't have my purse with so no make shift supplies like kleenex. I informed the hostess that they were out and she said she knows, the entire restaurant is out, SORRY. WHAT! Staff or management knew this and did not put up a sign NOR have someone run out to Publix or Walgreens to supply it for the late lunch or dinner crowd! YIKES. Good thing I didn't have a child with me that needed TP use. A bit disappointed. Glad I didn't have an emergency need. And speaking from experience dealing with my elderly parents, sadly there are times when you cannot wait until...
Read moreIf I was just rating on food this would be five stars. Only having one day off this week I wanted to take my wife out for an enjoyable evening. The waitress was very pleasant. She told us how management had a poker contest for the waiters. They received cards for selling appetizers and alcohol. Then the winner got a percentage of the sales. She said it was happy hour and apps were $5 and there were specials on draft beer. So we added some meat balls, that were great, and changed my wifes one beer to a pitcher. She said they got extra cards for pitchers and bottles of wine. The pitcher was not full. We each got one full glass each and between another 1/2 to 3/4 glass each. It really was not a big deal and were completely happy with the meal.
We asked for the bill. I looked and we were charged full price. So I ask the waitress about it. She said she made a mistake and they had stopped doing happy hour on Saturdays. So my app was 60% more than she said it would be and our 3 1/2 beers were $22. She asked if I wanted her to get the manager. I told her it was her choice. She decided not to. When she came back it was discussed again about getting the manger. Once again she decided not to. I always tip. My wife likes to over tip. Since the waitress knew I was being over charged and decided not to have it corrected I did not feel I should give her even more. I had already doubled my bill trying to help her win her poker contest. So I am not sure if this was on purpose to increase the sales to increase the prize.
I still do not feel I should have had to go complain to a manager. She realized there was a mistake and I feel she should have corrected it. My wife noticed I did not tip as we were getting up. Once in the parking lot she let me know how she felt about it. Even though the food was great she said we could never come back and is still upset. So my one night off was horrible due to my choice to visit the...
Read moreAlas, another update. They welcomed me back with open arms. The food is amazing and our server Ashley was even better. Kevin and Kayla can suck–nevermind.
Update: the manager named Kayla who claims to own Mellow Mushroom berated my family in front of the entire store, kicked us out, and threatened to have us trespassed all over some meatballs. Kayla, if you’re reading this please be so kind to send me the pictures you took of us on the way out, I want to use them on our Christmas card this year :)
A loyal customer bites the dust. After years of enjoying good food and average service at this store, we won't be back. The "hostess" had a bad attitude from the second we walked in and made it her goal to make sure we received a poor dining experience. The service was absolutely pathetic considering they were way overstaffed and only had 7 or 8 tables. Appetizers took well over 30 minutes to come out and entree's came out moments after. The staff had absolutely no leadership and was only interested in socializing with one another. The food was fine but is only half of the dining experience. The service ruined the meal. I was going to speak to the manager but after observing her skills throughout the course of our time here, it was quite clear that nothing would be done to rectify. Will happily drive to Sanford to get my Mellow...
