My Daughter wanted to take me somewhere new for Valentine's Day. We arrived at 11am. The place was not full or busy. We still had to wait 10 minutes for a seat. I ordered a biscuit with bacon, egg & cheese. It was delicious & cooked just right! It came with a side of grits. I thought that would be in a bowl but it was a scoop on a plate. That's okay, but I would have got more grits in a bowl. I ordered 1 pancake & it cost $2. The pancake was much smaller than the ones you get at Cracker Barrel. You could tell it was from a mix because it had no taste. For $2, I expect a buttermilk pancake that's large! The butter that was given to me to put in the Grits were those little tiny itty bitty containers of Smart Balance. Has no taste. They are only half full. You have to use a million of them to get a tablespoon of butter! For the prices of everything on the menu, I expected real butter or expensive fat patties of butter. The waitress had to be told to take the trash from the table even though I scooted it to the edge as far as I could & kept pointing to it every time she walked over. The bathroom for the women was dirty. It looked like it hadn't been dusted or wiped down in months. There's an old mirror that's chipped & ugly in there. In fact, the decor in the whole restaurant leaves a lot to the imagination. The restaurant has a concrete floor that looks like it hasn't been mopped in a while. For the high prices they charge & the reputation they are trying to gain themselves as being a fancy restaurant, I expected a lot better. I felt like I was in a Waffle...
Read moreIt's not a bad diner. It is certainly not deserving of commonly recurring customers though. I have been here three times, despite my lack of enthusiasm for this place, my father likes it when he visits from out of town.
Design. It's as though the owner is confused about what this place is. From the exterior, you can expect elevated food, a well decorated interior with tables and seating to match. Instead, you get a gorgeous exterior that speaks to at least slightly elevated dining, but an interior that tells you you've made a mistake. As morning advances and afternoon nears, the sun blasts through the windows. This could be nice, but it's not. It's blinding, it's hot, and it's uncomfortable enough to interfere with your breakfast or brunch conversations.
Food. It's not bad. Mostly. It's not good either. I won't hit it too hard on its hollandaise sauce, since I've only seen a few places actually nail that sauce. Theirs is thick and more reminiscent of mayonnaise. The dishes are plain and not impressive. The arrangement is more like Waffle House, except the food isn't executed as well and costs way more. Their breakfast sandwiches are terrible and dry. The bacon is overcooked and the assembly looks worse than if a child had tossed it together.
In the end, in a town lacking of great dining options, it is no wonder locals are forgiving its lackluster food and service and environment. This location should beware, however, if a decent place does open and shows...
Read moreThis restaurant used to be the Evan’s Diner down the road. My husband and I ate here a few weeks after they reopened to this new location. Our hope is that the many mistakes made during our visit were due to new routines, etc. We had to wait an extremely long time for our food, food was cold by the time we got it, then they forgot my husband’s pancakes and brought it to him after he finished his meal. They apologized profusely. But!!!! the same thing happened to the couple sitting at the table next to us. The exception was that they had been seated before we arrived, had already ordered their meals and they got their food way after we received ours. They were not happy. I could not blame them at all.
On another note, as we were exiting I shared with the cashier that the floors were dangerously slippery/tacky in the restaurant and in the bathroom. The cleaning solution or wax used was dangerous and posed a safety hazard. Being business owners ourselves we were surprised at the response received. The cashier made excuses that “people keep dropping food in the floor”. I then alluded to the entire bathroom floor (where I almost slipped and fell). She had no excuse for that except that they use water to clean the floors (this was not okay either ... due to sanitation regulations).
We chose to not return to this eatery again. Maybe, we’ll try it again and hope for a...
