Why do you think their customers rate it 5-star? One of the things that makes Evanston special is The Wine Goddess. As you might notice, we are big fans. Something about a bottle of wine evokes a sharing, social experience and that is the vibe at this shop/wine bar. Recommended for: Fun. Enjoying life. Having a drink. Learning about wine. Buying a unique bottle of wine. Put away that wine book and regularly visit the Wine Goddess. My favorite thing to do is to stop by the Friday/Saturday wine tastings and experience some new wines. Sign up for the e-mail or follow them on Facebook to get a preview. Why are you reading that Wall Street Journal wine column when you could learn more and have a lot more fun finding your own wine preferences on Main Street? Also, sign up for a “class” which are very fun. Secondly, it is nice to know there is a place to enjoy a nice glass of wine by the glass, whether it’s sparkling wine, a cold white or a nice red (or a Froze). They have a monthly wine club, see website. Joining the wine club is a no brainer. Figuring which tier is the “best” may take some thought however. Perhaps two tiers, or all three? One of the things I have learned is that you don’t have to spend a ton of money to get a special bottle of wine. But, I think the main reason we regularly visit The Wine Goddess is something I read from an Italian writer -- that we Americans are often much better at making a living than we are in making a life. FYI, Craft beer aficionados seem to be devoted to the selection at the store. And BTW, there is a huge parking lot in back that...
Read moreThey don’t tell you that if you buy from the fridge you can’t drink at the restaurant. But then throw a fit with you when you do. It’s not like I didn’t just spend $30 on drinks at a restaurant. The male waiter needs to chill out. Rententive to the absolute max.
I don’t understand why/what the difference between getting one of these and ordering off the menu at the table since they don’t care about that.
It’s just a level of pretentiousness that wasn’t really needed like I know it’s a wine place but you don’t have to be snobby about it. Especially when Evanston 1st sells all this stuff for a quarter the price.
Edit: you are right 2 stars was going to far and being too generous I’m sure this now singular Star will shine better.
Evanston 1st has 4packs of the vodka splash for $11.99 you sell single cans of it for $4 it’s a WAY WAY WAY BETTER DEAL STUPID. Now so does binnys which is just down the street. They have everything you sell just about at...
Read moreHighly recommend the Wine Goddess wine shop/wine bar. If you want to enjoy life, if you would like to enjoy and learn about wine -- just go there. If you can’t make it by today, sign up for their e-mail newsletter or follow them on Facebook. (Is it a bad sign that your local wine shop is one of your e-mail VIPs?) I really like the Friday and Saturday evening wine tastings. Take a class also. Both are a really very fun way to learn about wine. Sign up for their Passport Wine Club level. Participate for a year. It will be a life-changing event. ;-) Every bottle in the place is thoughtfully selected at every price point. So, what I like to do is window shop and check out the shelves for new arrivals or old favorites. This is best done while holding a glass of sparkling wine. BTW, it is a smaller place, so be patient if they get suddenly very busy. Located directly on the Main Street Metra stop and the Red...
