Have been wanting to try this place and finally got the chance tonight. We ordered several menu items to try. In our opinion, nothing was excellent but nothing was bad. Itâs definitely worth trying as everyoneâs taste is different.
Cheesy garlic bread was okay. It wasnât very hot and didnât taste bad, just okay. A bit dry and not super cheesy. The dipping sauce was excellent. Tastes like the Little Italy marinara sauce - delicious.
Rice bowl with steak was okay. Itâs a VERY generous portion of rice. Unfortunately the rice was a little overcooked and mushy. It was seasoned really well. I was expecting a little more veg. The tomato and lettuce on top were nice, wish there was a bit more. The garlic sauce was okay. I ordered tzatziki to add - and it definitely made it better! The steak was seasoned well and just slightly overcooked to my taste. This was the best deal for the amount of food you get.
Fattoush salad was just okay. The dressing was very good! I kinda wish the dressing was served on the side, but this isnât a huge deal obviously. I do wish it had more tomatoes and cucumber. It was a lot of spinach and arugula. Not worth almost $9 in my opinion for the lack of toppings. The homemade croutons werenât good. Really hard and oily and not a good flavor. I will stick with the Mediterranean salad at Little Italy. That one is a 10/10.
Deep fried goat cheese sandwich was a no for us. The fried goat cheese was extremely salty. Personally I didnât find it to be edible. It was a dry sandwich.
Ham and cheese sandwich was good. Not great, not bad. Kind of basic but not a bad meal.
I added 2 pictures of the rice bowl just to show kind of how it looks. Very good flavor. Lacking in veggies (in my opinion and taste) and a bit mushy.
We placed the order online on their website. Menu items are priced higher on their website than on their posted menu. I know this is common. But they also charge a convenience fee on top of it. I noticed it and still went ahead and placed the order, but Iâm mentioning it so people know itâs probably just better and cheaper to phone your order in. Iâll add a picture of the menu price and the price I paid for reference. Iâve also heard they have a great lunch special, but thereâs not an option on their site to get the lunch special. That would be a nice update as well.
Just giving my honest opinion and review. I will come back to try other menu items in the future. Iâm interested in the pizza, falafel and other...
Read moreWe stopped by Lilyâs Mediterranean Express for lunch today. We have been looking for great casual Mediterranean since we moved here 2 years ago and most everything weâve tried around here has been disappointing. Marida is good, but more upscale than we want most times. We just want really good shawarma and gyros and maybe some great mezze. Evansville finally has a place that delivers that. We ordered the appetizer falafel, a chicken shawarma, and a gyro. While we were waiting, Diego, the owner, brought us a bowl of hummus and pita to try âon the houseâ. It was honestly the best hummus I have had in a long time. It had just the right balance of tahini and lemon juice so it was extremely flavorful and not bitter. It was also silky smooth and creamy. Diego also brought out a tray of pizza samples - half zaâatar and half cheese. They make their own zaâatar seasoning (a blend of spices including thyme, oregano, sumac and sesame seeds) and it is absolutely fantastic. Iâd honestly buy zaâatar from them if they sold it on its own! Our sandwiches came out next. After one bite we both were practically moaning at how good it was. The shawarma was perfectly spiced and grilled and the accompaniments were just right. Itâs rare that we eat somewhere around town and say that the food was well seasoned, but we said that about everything we ate today. The gyro was also fantastic and a very generous portion. Itâs clear that they get very good quality meat and season and cook it to perfection. The falafel took a little longer to arrive because it was fried to order and came out still sizzling. I love that they make it bite size. I know I sound like a broken record, but it was also amazingly good. The outside was perfectly crispy and the interior was soft, herby, chickpea bliss. Anyone whoâs read my reviews knows that I almost never write a review that doesnât find anything wrong with the food. I truly could not find one single fault with any of the food we ate at Lilyâs - it was all flawless and delicious. The only downside was that they have almost no seating and what they do have is hightop tables. They are really set up much more for takeout and delivery, which weâll do from now on. Iâm hoping they do so well that they have to move to a bigger...
Read moreBeen a customer since the week they opened. We quickly determined that we found the best gyro in town. The Bruschetta was excellent as well.
I usely get a lamb shawarma or lamb over rice from Manna or Shahâs, but love the gyros here, so much that i didnât want to risk trying something that doesnât live up to expectations, but over the weekend we decided to try the rice bowls. My girlfriend got the chicken shawarma and I got the steak over rice. My first impression when i picked up the order, was that the price was comparable to similar dishes from their competitors, but the portions seemed to be somewhat smaller, however with that being said, they did not disappoint. The Steak over rice was wonderful and I canât wait to get it again. I did try the Chicken Shawarma and it was outstanding as well
I highly recommend anyone who hasnât been here yet, do yourself a favor and try it sooner...
