El Patron Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Evansville

I'm going to be honest, I didn't think this place was going to be very good. We frequent Los Bravos and we couldn't really find any Mexican restaurants that held up to their standards. After a couple months of my husband saying he wanted to try El Patron, I finally caved (I'm more of a sushi kind of person and I always get nervous trying new places, so it took some convincing). Boy howdy am I glad we stopped here for dinner yesterday. He ordered the Quesadilla Popeye with added chicken and I ordered the Fiesta Seafood. The waiter (I think may have been the manager actually, the person refilling drinks was different), brought out our food after about 15 or 20 minutes, which is a perfectly reasonable amount of time. The portions were huge. I got two big filets of tilapia with 6 big shrimp and he got a huge quesadilla. The flavours were great and I enjoyed the salad and rice. We also ordered the flan for dessert. I honestly have never found a flan I really enjoy, but this one was amazing! I'm knocking off one star only because I feel like we could have gotten a little more rice with our orders, it seems like there was only enough to have about 6 bites and we both really love rice. The seats are also a little torn up so if those were fixed and they added a little more rice to each order, I'd be giving this place 5 stars. I really do recommend El Patron. Not only was the food great, but the service was wonderful as well. The staff was attentive and kind and we definitely will be back.

The food is consistently great, owner and staff are always kind and accommodating and make your experience enjoyable. In fact, we followed Rudy from 3 different restaurants just because he was such a great server, always above and beyond.

If I have one complaint about el patron, it’s this: Why offer a curbside pickup / pickup window if you never have anyone watch it? I have sat there indefinitely and nobody comes until You call the store. And that’s If the phone’s not busy or off the hook. There’s even a security camera in the pickup window to see if you’re there. It’s super frustrating - If wanted or was able and prepared to come in, I wouldn’t request order pickup. 🤷🏼‍♂️😔 So just a thought, take it or leave it, it would be nice to step that part up and get a monitor somewhere for that camera if you’re gonna offer it.

Food was good. The overall feel of the room was nice and vibrant. Really loved the plating and presentation of the food.

Service was not good at all though. I came in and as they saw me the servers ran to the back. One person came later on and showed me to my table. When it came time to pay I went up to the front desk. There were 4 employees sitting and talking, one was my server, that all saw me but didn’t assist me. A man came out from the back after a minute or 2 and told them all to get up while he had someone else check my order out. The servers and most the staff were not showing initiative. The building seemed a bit dusty and the floor in certain places was sticky.
