What a disappointment. Just left Uncle Yip’s for Christmas dinner, and it wasn’t worth the effort. Seriously, just order Chinese from any other generic place and you’ll get the same quality food—minus the lacking customer service/attention and unpardonable wait times 😂
Had a reservation for 2 for dinner at 3pm, and was happy to arrive and be immediately seated. That was where the efficiency ended. We had a nice, but very slow older gentlemen, attendant. He literally went to get our drinks ONE AT A TIME. I’ll admit they were made correctly, but it took ten minutes to get two cocktails to the table at the same time. It was painful to watch him slowly inspect bottles one at a time at the bar to ensure he had the right bottle. Note: we did not order anything “special.”
There was serious confusion on the dim sum. I went specifically for that (which I specified on the phone when I made the reservation), only to realize that not only was dim sum over, but it looked as if the leftover dim sum from the morning that was left sitting on the cart was being used to fulfill to-go orders. Appalled, I asked a young lady who informed me that employees ate the leftovers, and indeed I saw at least 5 employees randomly going through the leftovers to pick out their meal items…while their tables sat around waiting for service 😂 Kudos on eliminating waste and taking care of your employees, but could they NOT go on break in the middle of waiting on tables?!
At that point we should have left, but it’s Christmas and I’m hungry, so I settled in for the ridiculousness. I was not disappointed when our food came out both piecemeal and undercooked. We ordered shrimp fried rice and chicken fried rice. Those are standard dishes, right? Well, the basic ingredients were there, but flavor was not. I wanted to leave everything behind, but my bf insisted we take what we’d paid for and just fix it at home.
That’s right, I’m heading home to season and cook my leftovers so I can have a meal on Christmas Day 😂
We never got the steamed dumplings I ordered, which was really the only reason I made the trek to this establishment! If I hadn’t had such good company who was kind enough to laugh at the folly of errors that is Uncle Yip’s, this might have really sucked. Instead, it was sadly hilarious.
In the end I dropped $40 for two small cocktails and two undercooked fried rice entrees. I absolutely would have been better off just getting a pizza today. Or White Castle.
Seriously, just order from ANY Chinese place for delivery. No need to...
Read moreMy wife and I came here to dine on a Monday afternoon before dinner. We were visiting the area from out of town, and we were delighted to have found a restaurant that had Dim Sum in it's name.
We ordered 4 Dim Sum dishes, including the house Shumai. It was excellent.
The House Shumai was huge. 4 Pieces of Shrimp and Pork, and each took 2-3 bites. About twice the size of a traditional one. Had very savory flavor.
The Pan-fried Turnip Cake with Chinese Sausage was unique as well. I am very familiar with Turnip Cakes, but the sausage really raised it overall.
We also had a Shrimp and Pork Puff, which was something I've never had before. It came out HOT, but good. A unique flavor, I was pleasantly surprised.
And for the last, we had the Stuffed Mushroom with Shrimp. It was a mushroom cap with a ball of shrimp in the middle. Was a very good combination.
To round it out we also had Gai Lan with Tofu. This was excellent. The fried tofu was perfect, absolutely the best I've ever had. It soaked up the brown sauce and had the perfect texture. I've had nothing like it before. I will probably be disappointed with other's attempts now. The Gai Lan was cooked very well, not mushy, and still had a fresh green flavor. The sauce overall was very good. It didn't seem like they thickened it artificially.
And finally, we also drank hot tea, which was normal and acceptable.
The service was good. Prompt attention and food was served hot.
The only negative I can cite is the table arrangements. They are too short to sit. I am a 5'10" 180lb male, and my legs could barely fit under the decorative trim around the bottom of the tabletop. A suggestion would be either to raise the tables, remove the decorative trim, or take 2 inches off the chair legs.
100% recommended. I wish we lived in town for ala-cart service for the Dim Sun...
Read moreI absolutely love the food here it's amazing authentic and very tasty, the big issue at this place is the service they really really really really need to work on service, we stood at the doorway for probably six or seven minutes when we walked in they were busy granted however we did not get eye contact we did not get the the smile, the index finger up I'll be with you in a minute treatment we were just totally ignored. It didn't get better after we sat down either they've got such good food it's a shame they've yet to get their act together on their service((((( update )))))). In for carryout again restaurant very busy but I just can't understand when a place has such amazing food as this can on the flip side have service that is so inattentive and dismissive. I'm not sure if it's a language barrier, culture difference, or just cluelessness but they seem to miss the point that one should be acknowledged and at least made to feel like they know that they are there. I sat and watched while waiting for my to go order probably 10 people come in and they just stood there without any acknowledgment that they even existed. One Uber eats driver after being there for a good 10 minutes tried to speak to one of the flying servers as they went in and out of the kitchen to ask them to check on their order they put up their finger and gave the tsp, tsp, tsp sound shook their head and kept walking. I absolutely love the food here and I will come back because of that but just to think of what this place could be where they to concentrate on the customer service...
