i am a little disappointed in the dinner, and the menu. we visited Anthonys home port a week earlier, and the dinner was a lot better. home port was booked, so we went here, we figured it would be similar. unfortunately the menu was small, one complete side of the menu was drinks, the other side was food and appetizers, also salads and specials, at that point i was anxious. i figured it was more of a bar at that point, but i was hoping since the menu was small, every item would be perfect, we almost left and went to Emory's at Silver Lake.
we ended up staying, since we didn't know if they could get us in. i wanted a surf and turf, they had no lobster, but one of the specials was sirloin and prawns, so i ordered that. i would have rather had a filet, but that was not offered. the 4 small praws were kind of deflating, but they were good. the med rare steak did have some pink in it, but the ourside was almost black, it was not hard, just maybe dark seasoning? it gets worse, the green beans were almost raw, i usually like stuff crunchy, but a couple more minutes of heat would have been great, and some seasoning
it was not all bad, the salad was good, and the dessert was small but tasty, but most desserts are hard to rate bad. the bread was good, but not cut anywhere near through, so you had to rip it up to get a piece. this is great if you are eating alone, but after you rip it up to get a piece, you have to offer some to others at the table. we were at the table for at least 15 minutes, we had ordered our drinks, then ordered our dinner, then we had to flag the waitress down and ask if we could have some bread.
i don't know if they usually bring it, or you have to ask for it, since this is our first time visiting. i had finished my drink well before my dinner came, the waitress never asked if i wanted another, so i made it all the way through dinner, and one more piece of bread with nothinh to drink. she came back for dessert order, did not ask at that time either. i ended up flagging her down for another, just like the bread. might be ok for a light meal and a drink with a date, but service and food are better at red robin, or the keg for that. but $110 for 2 people is a bit much for subpar food inattentive service, and that was 1 glass of wine and a coke, so we will stick with Anthony's home...
Read moreI absolutely love this restaurant, myself and my wife come here often to enjoy a Sunday meal at the end of our week, we usually see the same waitress here many times serving us and having an amazing experience. This was a older lady with glasses who was very kind and remembered us the second time we had came from there on after. A few weeks ago we had this waitress who was younger, black/dark hair, glasses who had served us and it was just a terrible experience, I had brought in a friend to join us for dinner it took about 20 minutes to get us drinks, it took about a hour and 20 minutes from the time we got there to get our food, it wasn't as busy as some of the times we had been in, we kept trying to get her attention, she'd make eye contact and turn the other way. She ended up taking off my friends meal off the bill for the issue, which we felt somewhat resolved as it was the first mistake we've had. Now this last Sunday we had came in it was pretty empty, there was about 3 tables in the bar area that were just finishing their meal and 2 people waiting on their food. After 10 minutes it was us and two other tables in the bar area, we have still not been talked to even though this lady was walking around and clearly can see us sitting in her area and not been helped. At 30 minutes I stood up and walked to the front of the restaurant to see what's going on as this waitress was walking around aimlessly not helping even after direct eye contact and me turning my entire body around starring at her. As soon as I was standing at the front waiting for a guy to finish helping another patron she had bolted over to my table where my wife sat and asked "oh wow you haven't been helped yet oh I didn't even see you guys", this is just clearly a lie. I walked to the table and told my wife we'd be leaving as we only have bad experiences at Anthonys when this person is serving us. Once I could let pass, twice when there's no excuses I won't. I won't be returning to Anthonys for quite some time, I noticed over time people come and go, and with a waitress like this it's clear she's out the door soon if this is how guests are being treated in this establishment. Food is excellent and staff are usually great, but I could not recommend eating here due to this person some how ruining my entire experience of this...
Read moreSuch a rip off at this place. There are SO many better places for better prices. Overall, the food is fine, though a little hit and miss. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice enough place. It's just not worth the prices they charge. Not even close.
I've been to this place many times over the last decade or two. It's a popular place for various events (business, family events, last second decisions to go someplace "fancy" when other places are all booked up) because it's so well known. Usually the food is alright, sometime my entrees are even good, but overall, what a rip off.
My last visit there (a few days ago) was the last straw. I ordered the chargrilled halibut (over $30) and it was just a tad bit overcooked, a little tough. For that price it needs to be perfect. But worst of all, it was NOT seasoned. Not at all. I mean, wow... it was so bland. Just this bug chunk of fish they threw onto my plate with a few veggie and some rice. I didn't even finish it. Guys, don't be afraid to season your halibut! I know it's got a light and delicate flavor, but that doesn't mean a few spices are going to hurt it. Have some sense of adventure! And creativity!
As for some other general information, they tend skimp out on ingredients. Get a crab pasta for example, it's often hard to actually find any actual crab in it! though the price will suggest otherwise...
Lastly, the only thing that is worth it are their cobblers. VERY good. Maybe also their happy hour. Those prices are reasonable and the food is still good (and I think you can get the cobbler at happy hour anyway). The dinner is just insulting...
