Walkers is one of the best kept secrets in Ewing, NJ. My brother was in the area and I had to bring him there to taste their amazing food. We ordered several platters to sample. Since I accidentally found Walkers 6 months ago, the food is consistently delicious with just the right level of spice and flavor. They also offer a wide range of options that are available daily. I have had the oxtails, curry chicken, brown stewed chicken, and pork. All were absolutely delicious! We sampled the salmon dressed with a pineapple and it was both slightly sweet with a nice kick. The chef definitely has a distinctive flair I haven’t experienced before and I am here for all of it! The sides were equally delicious: mac n cheese, plantain, stewed cabbage, and calaloo with saltfish which was an unexpected delight—had no idea these two could work together so well from a flavor profile. The restaurant is small with about 3-4 tables for dining in, but it is immaculately maintained and very welcoming. The food is neatly displayed in a large steam table and it looks and smells so appetizing it makes you want to order two of everything. We were greeted by a lovely young lady who kindly allowed us to sample some of the items before deciding on which to purchase, which we greatly appreciated. She was generous with the gravy making the rice and peas so delicious. Not all restaurants are so generous or accommodating. We spent about $55 for three large platters of food with leftovers for the next day and we still had enough to send my brother home with lunch and dinner for himself for the next day. In terms of flavor, value, and customer service, Walkers has quickly become our favorite Jamaican restaurant in NJ. They may even be my favorite restaurant period. I cannot recommend this little treasure highly enough. Hopefully, they will find much success and expand their restaurant because they have something really special to offer. Try them and...
Read moreMy husband and I tried this place for the first time thru doordash. I had the jerk pork and my husband had the jerk chicken, both with rice and peas and cabbage. Everything was excellent. My only complaint is that I think they give less meat for the price, compared to their competitors. But, it's not worth taking a star off. This is truly authentic jamaican cuisine. Out all the jamaican restaurants I've tried between ewing, Trenton, Hamilton, even up north jersey, where I use to live, they have the best food. I'm being totally honest. We ordered large platters and my husband finished everything. That's how good it was. Lol. We like getting the large so we can have leftovers for next day. I had rice and peas and cabbage left but not pork because it wasn't that much and some had the fatty skin I couldn't eat. I hope they keep up the good work. Some restaurants can start off good and then slack off; inconsistent. I wish them and their business many blessings. This is my go to spot now. Hopefully, we will get to try beef and chicken patties the next time. They were out when we ordered. It was close to closing time. 3/17/23 We did try the food again. It was still good. The only thing we didn't like was the beef or chicken patties. It didn't have much filling at all. It was tough and flat. Like it was overcooked. The filling didn't even go to edge of crust on the side. It was just dough. That was disappointing because we love patties. I don't if that was a bad day or that's how it is daily. We will still continue to buy the platters. Maybe we will try patties one more...
Read moreI am in the middle of eating a pretty much perfect order of curry goat. The goat is as tender as can be, just falling off the bone. The gravy and the seasoning are just right. The rice and peas are tender and juicy. The cabbage is cooked to perfect tenderness with beautiful seasoning and I can't even imagine what their jerk chicken is like, but you can believe I will be coming back to find out. The portions are more than generous, the woman behind the counter was incredibly kind and nice, the restaurant is spotless, and the little shopping mall could not be more easy. ...
