My husband and I were starving and ready to tear up some delicious pizza. I discovered the Hungry Robot on yelp and we decided to give it a try.
They used to be in a food truck from my understanding, but now they have a permanent location. The little pizza shop was just big enough for their toppings bar, the cash register, a bench to sit on for those who choose to wait inside, and their 2 brick ovens which could be seen outside of the shop. This isnt a sit and dine place so call ahead to order your pizza so you can skip the wait.
The menu has lots of interesting pizzas to choose from and they have a monthly special as well - something I saw on their menu inside and not on their website.
We ordered 3 small pizzas - each for about $10. (Medium pizzas are about $20 each) Then the wait began. We did have to wait for about 20 or 30 minutes but we sat in the parking lot and colored (err.. I colored and tried to get my husband to color with me lol) while those delicious pizzas cooked.
We finally got our pizzas which barely made it back to the hotel with us because they smelled SO GOOD.
The margherita pizza was my favorite - it lacked no flavor whatsoever with its delicious hand made sauce and fresh basil. I loved the fresh mozzarella - there was just enough but not too much that it made you feel gross from all the heavy cheese. It let the generous amount of pizza sauce shine through. We also got the dilly dilly - I'm the pickle lover but my husband liked this one more than I did. The pickles go great on the pizza (surprisingly) but it was so heavy from all the cheese that I couldn't make it past 1 slice. Our final pizza was the chicken bacon pizza. I didnt get to try it but my husband loved it so much, he ate the entire thing. That's a compliment considering hes very good at stopping when hes full, but this pizza had him eating and eating until he felt like he was going to pop.
Needless to say this is our new go- to pizza place here in Fairbanks. We will definitely be ordering some for our next gathering...
Read moreCame in June 12th for the first time with friends who'd also never been here. When we walked in I asked the employee how it works cause it's our first time here, do we sit and get waited on like a restaurant or do we pick an item and order at the counter. The employee proceeded to not answer the question and fumble around not saying anything helpful to help first timers. I then said we'll go look at the menu and come back to order. The only table inside available was right next to the bathroom and the employee said we could also eat outside, but they don't do service and buss tables out there. So I ordered and asked approximately how long till I should come back in to see if the foods done. She said she didn't know cause she hadn't looked at how busy it was for awhile. She didn't say if anyone would do anything to try and find us sitting outside either. We walked outside and we all agreed she was no help at all in explaining how things worked here. Luckily the cooks called outside to us, which relieved my worries since I thought we'd have to keep going inside to check on our food. The food was yummy, my only issue is the crust was pretty soggy on my pizza where the ingredients tried to slide off. After we finished I bussed all our plates and brought them inside and I was waiting for the employee to tell me what to do with the stuff or take it from me. When she finished helping a customer, she just ignored me standing there with all our plates and walked off, so I sat them on the corner of the trashcan and left. If customers need to buss their own tables outside, there should be a clear place to put them, or atleast the employee be nice enough to help. I will give this place another shot, but sadly this wasn't a very good...
Read moreThis place has some of the most creative pizzas I've ever had. Fresh, high-quality ingredients and a wood fire oven result in crust with a fantastic balance of tenderness and crunch. I would've never thought mashed potatoes would have a place on a pizza. Aren't there rules against that or something? If such a law exists, call me a criminal. That pizza made me a believer. Rich sour cream ranch, chewy bacon, melty cheddar, and rich potatoes, all on a great crust. Their disrespect for the rule of starches continues with the November special. Again, lovely crust, a mushroom sauce/gravy, stuffing, cubes of tender and moist turkey, and a cranberry swirl. They created a freaking Thanksgiving pizza pie! Let me tell you, it's fantastic! Did I order the potato pizza and a Thanksgiving pizza and eat a slice of each? Yes, yes I did. I regret nothing. Don't worry though, if you and starchy nonsense are on a break, Hungry Robot's got you. In addition to classic pizza options and creative gems, you can get any pizza (or build your custom masterpiece) on a giant portobello mushroom cap. If they closed tomorrow, I would truly shed a tear. Oh! They also have desserts but I haven't tried those yet. There's an ice cream bar, slushies, plus they offer both funnel cake and churro fries. They make their own ice cream bars. Actually, I did have delicious Dole Whip on my first visit. It was great though I can't really credit Hungry Robot with that. They do get all the credit for my only...
