Isolde... is that... is that you?
Come closer. Please. I must tell you my tale. I wasn't always this way, you see. Old... Frail... I find my twilight is all but up, but it wasn't supposed to be this way! It was him! It was the Gangly Man.
It was a late summer evening, in what I believe was the year of our Lord two-thousand and nineteen. No! Two-thousand and eighteen, it must have been. I was walking to my humble home in downtown Fairfield. What can I say? The fields were certainly fairer back in my day!
As I passed the typical metropolitan fare offered up by North Texas Street and its tangents, I glanced upon a casual, take-out style Mexican restaurant. I shielded my eyes from the sun to make out the name of the establishment. "Adelberto's."
Well the signs on the windows certainly looked enticing... I thought to myself, "I believe I will sup on a burrito this evening!" Oh god was I wrong.
I approached the door, but hesitated, as I noticed the strangest thing. The only light in the place was the neon OPEN sign, in classic radioactive blue and red in pinkest hue. Not a single car inhabited the area of the parking lot designated 'drive-thru' by paper banner. I began to feel horribly alone, like I had blinked my eyes and opened them again to find myself on another planet. Regardless, I approached the front door.
As my hand shot up, knuckles poised for the old rap and tap upon the threshold, I suddenly heard his awful voice...
"Come... hehehe... Come, ye hoarder! Come, ye magpie.... COME ye miser with boundless years!"
His voice grew dreadful quiet now...
"Skin and bones! STICKS and stones! What secrets do you whisper in the cold? I'll have ye now."
Then a lifetime of silence occurred in fifteen seconds.
The door crashed open, and the Gangly Man unfolded towards me from the darkness, yes unfolded... his limbs! Too long! They unfurled like a dead dragon's wings from the corners of the threshold, reaching beyond sky and pavement. His face was uneven... That's all I can say.
"Run, wee beast! Run!" he gurgled.
I did.
But Isolde... I wasn't fast enough. This decrepit form... This early dusk... The encroaching darkness at the end... Do I spy his folded form within? It is ALL because of HIM!
I remember when we played together as children. What are you now? Twenty?
Oh, before I forget... I did go back to Adelberto's after this event. The food was very good, and the 24 hour drive-thru is so convenient and rare for a place of that quality. I enjoyed it, four stars.
Adelberto's great taste and fair price does not bring me solace as I crest this final hill into that great dark valley, but I am happy to hold your hand one last time.
Isolde? Wait... did you color your hair?
Isolde... is that......
Read moreI've been wanting to eat there for a minute now...the reviews kinda scared me off.. so I get there pretty busy but line moved along just fine.. about noon... It is pricey I got the Taco combo with rice and beans. I wasn't expecting big tacos and a good portion or rice and beans. Big tortillas too. only complaint it the guacamole taste old or bad and the Pico had too much onions. After a few hrs after eating it my stomach was queezy I'm guessing it was the guacamole because that's the only thing that was off. the rest taste good the meat was a little tough and chewy but also thick. I'd give it a shot... I figured people in the day time care more about service than night crew and food should be fresher.
UPDATE:12/21/21 Ok so this is my third time here... I came last night, I was craving the rice and beans so I ordered their beef rolled tacos because they never disappoint with quantity it was good I even ate the left overs for breakfast today... I went again tonight and ordered the 3 chicken rolled tacos with rice and beans. Boy it's disappointing to see la rasa acting like stuck ups like they hate their job... not only did she get my order wrong but no customer service experience at all... The food... tacos were hard taste like they had been soaked in oil for a while... the rice was hard like it's undercooked and old... the beans... the beans taste like they got burned and way salty.... F** I mean damn if you don't like working here please don't and that way we don't have to have a bad experience with a place that is good when...
Read moreIf I could give this place a triple minus 0 I would. ABSOLUTELY hands down the WORST, NASTIEST, OVERPRICED,NON AUTHENTIC Mexican Restaurant/Drive Thru I e EVER experienced. Ugh! Yuck! 🤢 Okay so I am originally from San Diego California and I'm quite used to having really really good takeout Mexican food from the shack of all shacks to the restaurant sit down dine in experience and everything is always authentic and very tasty. This particular restaurant I've tried multiple times and just disappointed each experience. I've tried them multiple times trying to give them a chance depending on the time of day I was thinking that the food would be better early morning late night whichever and know there's no difference. The cashiers or the people that are at the drive-thru window are rarely very friendly. The drive-thru experience makes you feel rushed. When you finally do get your food it is slightly warm but never hot the cheese is an indication that you have not received hot food because it's never melted they give you red sauce and don't bother to ask if you want red or green salsa. Their prices in my opinion are a little on the high side for the quality of food and service. For those of you that enjoy this restaurant God bless you for those who want to try it good luck....
