Edit: RESPONSE TO OWNER BELOW.
I love the food and atmosphere here. But on a long road trip I needed to stop and get a charge for my EV and thought I'd grab dinner here as well. After I pulled up I discovered that both of the chargers were turned off. I asked the hostess at the front what was up with the chargers. She responded that only turned on when the owners are here. I asked if somebody at the restaurant could turn them on for me, she said no only the owners could. If this is untrue then the service needs to be trained better. If true, this is a disservice to your paying customers.
Signs are posted "Tesla chargers are for customers only." Needs to be updated to "Tesla chargers are on only when the owner is here, so good luck."
Without any other decent charging options around here I felt blessed to discover this place and always go in for dinner when stopping for a charge. That won't be happening again.
Congratulations owners, you lost all of my business and saved yourself about a dollar of energy tonight.
Response to owner: Educate your staff and this wouldn't have been an issue. I've purchased dinner at your location more than ten times and have used your charger 3 times in the past two years.
Maybe if you saw this as a communication problem instead of discounting my intention "like those other interstate drivers" you mention, I would have been more understanding and edited my review. But if you're talking to customers like this the 1-star review stands. I can see why miscommunication would be common with your staff.
Yes, I do love the food and atmosphere. But I love good customer service and respectable ownership more. And maybe if you were able to apply empathy you would see tonight's event as a problem.
Free electricity? If that's what you want to call a $15 burger before taxes and tip. I didn't spend $20 tonight...
Read moreThis restaurant has been hyped by about everyone I know. We finally had the opportunity to try this restaurant after attending an event in Marion. Even though, it was around 8:30pm when we arrived and with 1/4 of the table empty, it was still a 30 minute wait. Either they are understaffed or just want to keep the appearance of being too busy to seat people.
The restaurant has a hip and modern feel. The decor is appealing. The overall look and feel goes along great with the Grains & Grill theme.
Once we got a table, our server seemed pretty much apathetic to waiting on us like she didn't even want to be there. It was an acceptable level of service but it wasn't overly enthusiastic either.
At our table, we ordered the special of the evening, which was a pan seared grouper fillet and a Hoosier Hotplate. We never did receive our bread, which was quite disappointing. The menu states that entrees will receive the bread and the Hoosier Hotplate item was just two items down from that verbiage on the menu.
The portion for the nightly special was very small for the price - $33. It was cooked to perfection - flaky and melt in your mouth. However, it did not have much flavor. The sweet potatoes were good but the portions were so small, it was very disappointing. For $33, I would expect at least a hearty portion of the sides even if the entree was on the small side.
My husband enjoyed his pork loin but said the Bonge's is much better.
Overall, I was extremely disappointed in this restaurant that has been hyped by so many of my friends. We live 90 minutes away and are in the area a few times a year but we will not be going out of way to go here when there are much better places...
Read moreBIG DISAPPOINTMENT ON A BIG DAY. We hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner for 45 people in the party room. The Executive Chef Kevin was outstanding to meet with and plan the event. The food was also DELICIOUS in every respect.
Unfortunately for all, the party itself was a living nightmare. We were given ONE server for the entire evening- a party of 45! Not only that, the server was exceptionally rude and very impersonal. Service crawled at a SNAILS PACE... the entire party was there and waiting for 45 minutes before we had been given drinks and began ordering food. Eventually my (the groom's) mother got up and began helping to fill drink orders and refill glasses. My father stalled the crowed by having an open mic for funny or meaningful stories about the bride and groom that could be shared by friends and family in attendance.
My father (party host) asked to speak with the owner but was told she was "too busy and not available to speak," so he went and recruited the bartender to help refill drinks (she was a very sweet girl and was happy/helpful the rest of the evening).
After we had been there for 2.5 hours, guest began to leave before dessert had been served.
At last, the owner revealed herself and asked how everything had gone. After complimenting the food, we cordially bemoaned how understaffed and slow paced the evening had proceeded, upon which the owner's only response was, "Well, if you had ordered appetizers it would have helped fill time" in a rude and unbecoming tone.
OKAY. Even though the food was spot-on, we would never recommend anyone to use Grains & Grill for an event of any kind, and my father who sponsored the evening says he will...
