So good! I got the Shami kabob dinner and an order of the Mantu dumplings.
The Shami was delicious! Cooked perfectly. Not overcooked and dry. Not undercooked and leaving me worried about getting sick. Just right. The portion was 2 kabobs, each with 4 actual meat "balls". Each piece of meat was 2 to 3 bites worth. The meat balls were separated by roasted tomatoes, red bell peppers, sliced lemon, and 1 sliced jalapeno in each kabob. It came with rice, salad, and a big piece of the kind of bread you'd expect (and which name I do not know). And there was a white sauce that, honestly, tasted more like Caesar dressing than the yogurt sauce I was expecting, and it also came with a green sauce. It was a lot of food for one (pretty big) person.
The Mantu dumplings were also delicious. There were 5 in their own pie tin. Meat in the middle of a dumpling wrapper, covered with chickpeas, sauce, and a green garnish (parsley?). Super good!
I only gave the 3 stars for "Atmosphere" because it was a total hole in the wall. It was nice enough, but it was definitely not fancy. No music playing (that I noticed) or TVs. If you're looking for a divey hole in the wall that survives on its excellence in food, then it's 5...
Read moreFirst time here. The name of the place is a little misleading, I wouldn't have pegged it for an Afgan food restaurant. Before you read and think I didn't like it, I will be back. I'm personally just very critical of this type of cuisine because I have a lot of experience with it.
Got the lamb and chicken combo. The brown rice was good, and the lamb was tender and decently seasoned. Chicken was well seasoned and tender. Salad was just salad, nothing special. Spinach was decent, will probably get chickpeas insead next time. Rice was alright, but considering it's in the name of the place, I would have expected a better depth of flavor. Still good, just missing something, cardamom, maybe?
I didn't use the hot sauce, though I kinda wish I had. Bread is off the shelf stuff you can get at an Indian or Middle Eastern market, but it is provided warm.
Price was 16.99, I believe - more food than I should have eaten in one sitting, could have easily been for 2. It's within walking distance to where I live in Falls Church, so I'll be back to try out the Afgan...
Read moreI can’t say enough good things about this place. I’ve become a regular, stopping by at least once a week, and every time I’m greeted with warm smiles and excellent service from their amazing staff. Over time, I’ve gotten to know them well, and their hospitality is truly unmatched.
My go-to order is the combo lamb and chicken over rice, and it never disappoints. The flavors are bold, the portions are generous, and the quality is consistently top-notch. Whether you’re craving something hearty or just looking for a flavorful meal on the go, Rice Guys is the perfect spot.
If you’re in the area and haven’t been yet, you’re missing out. Great food, great people – I can’t recommend...
