I visited on a Monday evening on my way back home after remembering how I enjoyed their sister restaurant Bear Branch Tavern. Parking can be challenging in this area, so walking a block or so can be expected. The inside struck me as quite dark even for a tavern (one person next to me had to use his phone light to read the menu). The barkeep greeted me promptly and was largely attentive. Food arrived at mostly appropriate times. I started with grilled wings followed by the blackened mahi-mahi sandwich followed by a burger with fries and ending with key lime pie. The wings had good flavor and well cooked meat, but the amount of char seemed somewhat excessive especially towards the last couple. The mahi sandwich had an indescribable taste that felt neither good nor bad to me. Both the cole slaw and side salad were fresh tasting. My request for a burger medium rare without a bun had the correct temperature but seemed a little salty to me. The fries tasted inconsistent, as some of my waffle fries felt warm and appealing and others were more room temperature and even stale. I liked the key lime pie itself with a balanced tart flavor and a crust that broke easy with my spoon. As minor points, the diced mango garnish seemed unripe and the mango coulis could have been more generous compared to what shows on the menu. The total bill amounted to a little under $65 excluding tax and tip. I think other menu items could lure me back for another visit and maybe experience more consistency in the cooking.

I came into town and met up with some friends. I got here early and they seated me, even though my party wasn't complete. Simon was our server and he greeted me immediately, brought over water, and answered my questions about beer selections. I asked if they did beer flights, but unfortunately they do not. Simon offered some samples to see if I would like a beer before committing so I tried a sour, which was delicious, but it I have to commit to a whole beer (and I only drink 1/meal), I chose an oatmeal stout. I was NOT disappointed. My friends joined us and Simon immediately came over to take their drink orders and asked if we would like to have any appetizers started, which got us to order the pretzels with beer cheese and a half dozen oysters. I ordered the chicken piccata and it was so delicious!! I can't remember what my friends ordered but they loved their meals as well. For dessert, we ordered a key lime pie and the bananas foster bread pudding. So delicious!! This place has amazing food and service!! I will definitely return next time I am in the area.

Very comfortable, well-decorated sports bar/neighborhood restaurant. Plenty of seating. Public parking around the back. Obligatory big screens dot the walls along with framed pictures. The place on a Wed night was full. Their menu was appealing, with a wide selection of unique salads and entrées. Both of our choices were excellent! (Now we understand Dogwood's popularity.) My wife loved the Buddha Bowl. Just as rotund as Buddha himself, this salad was heaping full of a favorable mixture of spinach, quinoa, roasted beets, basil pesto, avocado, a hard-boiled egg, w olives & garbanzo beans tossed in house balsamic vinegarette. It was quite a meal. My French Onion Burger was delectable! So nice to eat a burger without the usual ketchup/mustard pickle condiments! The 1/2 lb burger w swiss was cooked perfectly medium then placed between a softened potato bun smeared w French onion spread and ladened w caramelized onions. Add a warm au jus for dipping and a fresh salad w chunky blue cheese and this plate was killing! Glad we chose the Dogwood Tavern.

Dogwood Tavern: A Rustic Gem for Brunch, Service, and Atmosphere

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Dogwood Tavern in Falls Church, Virginia, and I must say it left a lasting impression. From the moment I stepped inside, I felt the warm embrace of a true Virginia tavern. Let me share my delightful experience with you.

Brunch Extravaganza: Sunday Brunch at Dogwood Tavern is a feast for the senses. The spread includes an all-you-can-eat omelet and waffle bar, complete with bagels, lox, fresh fruit, and an array of toppings. As a brunch enthusiast, I was in heaven. The omelets were fluffy, the waffles crispy, and the bagels perfectly toasted. And yes, I tried to conquer all three—omelet, waffle, and bagel—but alas, my eyes were bigger than my stomach. The value for money is exceptional. Virginia Mac & Cheese: If you're a mac and cheese aficionado, don't miss Dogwood's version. Creamy, cheesy, and oh-so-comforting, it's a must-try.

Service with a Smile: Cassandra, the manager, deserves special recognition. Her attention to detail and genuine warmth set the tone for the entire dining experience. She ensures that every guest feels welcome and well taken care of. Kudos to Cassandra for her outstanding service!

Lively Atmosphere: Dogwood Tavern strikes the perfect balance between cozy and vibrant. Whether you're catching up with friends, celebrating a special occasion, or simply enjoying a lazy Sunday, the atmosphere invites you to relax and savor the moment. The outdoor patio, especially during warmer months, is a delightful spot to sip on your favorite beverage and soak in the Virginia charm.

Dogwood Tavern is more than just a bar; it's a community hub where good food, friendly faces, and Virginia hospitality converge. Whether you're craving brunch delights or seeking a lively evening out, this rustic gem won't disappoint.

Dogwood Tavern has truly mastered the art of creating a welcoming space where locals and visitors alike can unwind, indulge, and create lasting memories. If you haven't experienced it yet, I highly recommend adding it to your brunch bucket...

A preface, the waiting staff at the Dogwood Tavern have always been attentive and pleasant, this has zero to do with those hard working people just trying to get by. Now, the review itself.

This is now the fifth time dining at the Dogwood Tavern, the first visit went to a medium rare Double Decker Bacon Burger with waffle fries was adequate in much the same way heat lamp food from 7-11 is adequate, it was underseasoned and while sauteed onions are fine for soup actually caramelized ones are better suited on burgers, with just a hint of char on their edges. The second was their Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich which could have doubled as a jerky base or the rubberized flooring for a bounce house. Third visit was a seasonal burger with blue cheese sauce, made medium, on it that was runnier than watered down thousand island dressing and came with beef that may have never heard of salt nor fat content from how lacking in flavor it was. Fourth went to their cooks attempt at schnitzel which suffered the same fate as the fried chicken sandwich, instead of being tender, juicy, and breaded it would have bounced reasonably high if the desire to throw it on the floor came to pass which is a crime unto schnitzel. Our most recent, and hopefully final, visit was another attempt at the Double Decker, medium well, and the inability to season meat stayed as true this time as it did the first.

The poor price per performance continues into their alcoholic beverages. At $7+ a glass for hot mulled cider, or worse for other cocktails, you'd be better off just taking a $50 and lighting it on fire, it leaves the same feeling behind.

A better culinary experience can be had out of gas-station heat lamp foods or assorted grease-ball establishments such as Burger King. Their popularity, pricing, and food quality are all flabbergasting and not in a good way. None of these dishes were sent back to be re-made, the Dogwood has been busy every visit, considering the quality of the food prepared, that fact alone is...
